No Sound Again (solved)
« on: April 25, 2011, 07:33:28 PM »
HI I have had problems with sound being on and off since I started using PClinuxOS
I have the problem fixed on my lap top thanks to help on forum but still constantly have problems with my other computer  which is an older PC DELL PentiumIV with a sound card Audigy.
It sometimes comes good and then after updates seems to stop.
I have run the phonon program but with no success this time.
Also have run alsaconf in root. and it says its OK
but no sound

Thanks cam2000

Hi cam2000.

When you run "Configure Your Computer" and look in "Hardware" under "Soundcard", is this the same card that "alsaconf" is setting up?

Thanks for input,
i have realised that I have to close kmix before running alsaconf, and then adjust kmix, I selected an option to display just the sound out items. after this I tested it with phonon in configure your desk top > hardware > multimedia and it worked i have shut down and restarted a couple of time so i think this may have been what has been the problem, that i need to shut kmix before running alsaconf, it say to shut stuff down but I did not understand that meant kmix.
Very slow learning curve for me with linux and when I get things fixedup i seem to forget what todo next time it doesnt go how I want it to.
Forum is a good help... :D

From the command line, I frequently find I need to run alsamixer in order to get the levels properly adjusted.
