Apps running on after logout. (Solved)
« on: April 25, 2011, 03:20:33 PM »
Hi; Here's another problem I've run into, my processor is running at 90 to 100 per cent after logging out. In checking I've found that this was caused my a program using all 4 cores of the processor. Every time I check it's NetApplet running. On farther checking I find that there are 2 or 3 instances of NetApplet running at the same time. One is always sleeping the other 1 or 2 are running using 90 to 100 percent of all 4 cores in the processor. This this tends to run the temperature up on the processor. I leave the one that's sleeping alone and kill the others. This doesn't seem to have any effect on running anything else in the system. However it starts all over as soon as I log out of LXDE. Is there any way to stop this from happening? I don't think it's right for 2 or 3 instances of NetApplet running at the same time. I've tried other desktops and other OS's, this only seems to happen with PCLOS/LXDE combination.

Hi,

here is only one instance of Net_Applet running.
If you use autostart function, and has setting Net_Applet?

What is happens with a new user?

Ditto.

Have you tried a full reboot?

Which kernel are you using?

Do you have more than one network?
PCLinuxOS 32bit KDE 4.10.4; kernel-3.4.11-pclos1.bfs & 64bit 3.4.38bfs; NVidia GeForce 8400GS 1GB 310.19 driver

When I log in there is only one instance of Net_Applet running as long as I'm logged in. It's when I log out that a second instance in started and it keeps running after I log out. When I log in again or if my wife logs into her account there are two instances running. One instance has to be killed and everything runs fine until you log out again, then it starts all over again.
By new user do you mean a new account? I haven't tried creating a new account.

Thanks for reply. Reboot is one way to stop second instance of Net_Applet from running. But it starts all over if I go into LXDE and log out.
I had the original default kernel, 2.6.33.7, then I installed the latest kernel, 2.6.38.2, to see if it would help eliminate the problem, it didn't.
Just one network connection to the internet modem.

Okay i'm thinking i can see the mistake...

You should activate only for one user the Net_Applet application, maybe it will help.
I'm only user on my laptop, and so i can't replay this error.

Will check, how many instance running, after i log out/in...

EDIT
Only one instance after log out/in.

What is the output from with command, please post

Code: [Select]
locate net_applet

Leiche;

Thanks for reply. I run locate command in terminal and this is what I got;

[stephen@localhost ~]$ locate net_applet
/etc/X11/xinit.d/70net_applet
/usr/bin/net_applet
/usr/lib/libDrakX/network/net_applet
/usr/lib/libDrakX/network/net_applet/ifw.pm
/usr/share/applications/net_applet.desktop
/usr/share/autostart/net_applet.desktop
/usr/share/gnome/autostart/net_applet.desktop
[stephen@localhost ~]$

I don't know if this is any help.

What happens if you first "kill" all of the net_applet instances/services that are running prior to logging out?
PCLinuxOS 32bit KDE 4.10.4; kernel-3.4.11-pclos1.bfs & 64bit 3.4.38bfs; NVidia GeForce 8400GS 1GB 310.19 driver

You can use with command in /etc/X11/gdm/PostSession/Default

Code: [Select]
kill `ps -ef | grep net_applet | tr -s ' ' | cut -d ' ' -f 2`
Open a terminal and type
Code: [Select]
su enter
rootpassword enter
Code: [Select]
leafpad /etc/X11/gdm/PostSession/Default
and add kill `ps -ef | grep net_applet | tr -s ' ' | cut -d ' ' -f 2`

under the line
Code: [Select]
  echo "$OUTPUT"
}

Should look so

Code: [Select]
echo "$OUTPUT"
}
kill `ps -ef | grep net_applet | tr -s ' ' | cut -d ' ' -f 2`

Hope it will help... Get it from maik3531.

Good luck

Leiche;

I added the line to the file /etc/X11/gdm/PostSession/Default. That stops the Net_Applet from running on after logging out, however now I end up with Gnome-volume-control running on by itself and have to go and kill it.

It doesn't seem right that I should have to kill any program or that there are second instances of any program started at log out. Some where something is happening that shouldn't happen. Is there anyway to find out what's causing this to happen and fix it?

You use LXDE, and has running Gnome-volume-control ?
What is, when you use Volti?

If then your problem solved, without edit the /etc/X11/gdm/PostSession/Default file?

If you use Volti, Volti must add to autostart, you can use LX-Autostart, you find it in lxdecc (Configure Your LXDesktop)... ;)

Leiche;

Thanks for the info on the volume control. I had Gnome desktop loaded as a second desktop until I got LXDE straightened out. It is now removed so I haven't got the problem of gnome-volume-control running away at log out. Now I can have volti autostart for master volume control. So far things are working once again without any apps running away after logging out. Thanks for the assistance.
