Context/Drop down Menus
« on: April 21, 2011, 04:24:35 PM »
I will try to explain this the best that I can.  When I try to select something from an expandable context or drop down menu (eg. in Dolphin) the menu is way too fast.  For example, suppose I want to move a file to the /usr/bin file from my home/me/Documents file.  I go into dolphin, right click the file and a menu pops up with the "move here" option.  I click move here and another menu pops up with home folder root folder or browse.  I click root folder and another menu appears showing all the folders in the root directory.  I try to hover my mouse over the folder that I want (in this case /usr) but before I can get my mouse down to the /usr option, as I sweep over the other folders, if I hesitate for a millisecond over the wrong folder, the wrong folder is selected and I have to start all over again.  Is there any way to slow down how quickly the computer selects my choice from the menu?     I hope I'm making myself at least as clear as mud.  Again ,my apologies if this appears somewhere else...maybe I used the wrong search phrases...
Thanks
A

? My dolphin doesn't behave the way yours does. It waits until I hover over the desired directory and then shows the "Copy Here" option.

Select Browse instead of selecting through the folders, which some may have countless sub-folders thus making it difficult to select the correct folder and you'd have to do it again.

Thanks Archie, that's the way I've been doing it lately and it works great.

In Dolphin you may also find that the Split Window (press F3) view showing 2 different folders on the same screen may make it a tad easier when moving/copying files.

Do you have 'focus' set to follow the mouse pointer? ......  I don't use it, but thought it may have a bearing .......  maybe there is a delay function that can be increased if that is it .....
