Alsa's lost its memory. (SOLVED)
« on: April 20, 2011, 08:05:01 AM »
Running fully updated LXDE.  Since last update the alsa volume resets to zero on rebooting.  Up to now it went back to whatever setting it was on last.

How does one become a hero?  By asking a lot of dumb questions apparently! I have three computers of various ages, the most powerful is a Dell Netbook 10v; each has 2 or 3 versions of PCLOS of various vintages.  Location, St John's, Newfoundland.

Thanks Neal, I've fixed it and reported my experiences there.  I did do a search of course, but it's sometimes difficult to choose the "right" keywords!

However, this sort of thing shouldn't happen just on an upgrade should it?

Check texstar's twitter page. He posted about this 2 days ago.

alsa updates stores asound.state in /var/lib/alsa but some DE's look for asound.state in /etc so lets symlink it back.

You don't have to be a "twitterer" to read Texstar's twitter posts.

Other good sources of information are Software Announcements and General News and Announcements.

It doesn't take long to check for and read any new posts in all 3. It will keep you up on what is going on.

Thanks, I didn't realise especially as I was faced with a logon dialogue when I checked.  I'll watch those spots - put them in my bookmarks.

Seems OK now anyway after Andy's procedure.
