Please tell on what system you are, KDE, Gnome or something else and what did you exactly, from which version you upgraded?

Ok, Im not using Gnome, I thought maybe you made an upgrade from an older KDE release to a newer.
Maybe someone who uses Gnome can join us.

Icons in menus and buttons were disabled by default by upstream as reported in Gnome 2.28 Release Notes since they think it will standardize the look and feel of menus and present a cleaner interface to users. Since we know some people will disagree with that decision, you can revert the change through gconf running:

Open terminal copy and paste

# gconftool-2 --type boolean --set /desktop/gnome/interface/buttons_have_icons true

# gconftool-2 --type boolean --set /desktop/gnome/interface/menus_have_icons true

Make sure you are fully updated. I just finished updating the Gnome partition and all menu icons are in root, guest and a new test account. What iconset are you using?
