Dolphin does not auto-refresh
« on: April 19, 2011, 08:37:22 AM »
Hi all,

I've searched the PCLinuxOS forum and also general kde4 ones.

My folders don't auto-refresh (for example when I'm downloading a file and have the "Downloads" folder open), and I have to hit F5 to manually refresh and see the new folder contents.

Is there a way to have Dolphin auto-refresh?

It's a small thing, I know, but still, it's annoying.

Thanks!

(Using kde 4.6.2, kernel  2.6.38.2-pclos1.bfs, fully updated, nothing from out of repos)

It occasionally happens to me too. A little inconvenience no matter how trivial.

Well, odin. I guess after two day on the same boat ... no one's gonna come and rescue us. I just can't believe we're the only two that has the Dolphin curse. ;)

My Dolphin refreshes in "real time" most of the time. But under certain circumstances, it does not. I have yet to reliably recreate the circumstances.  ??? ???

I use konqueror as my file manager and sometimes a folder refreshes when i enter it and sometimes it doesnt. I found this annoying most often when i download something to my download folder and then i go there and a file i just downloaded isnt there and then i start wondering if i downloaded it to the the right folder and i then i click refresh and the file shows up. I should be getting used to this behavior but it just cant seem to grow on me.

A certain version of KDE4 would not refresh folders when a kernel above a certain version was in use but this bug was supposed to be fixed on newer version of KDE. It looks like the bug is still there and people are seeing it and are just not bothered enough by it to complain.

Yes, yes ... we know about that ... the issue on hand is auto-refresh. And maybe a way to get the FMs to do it whenever there's a file/folder added/deleted/renamed/diced/shredded/minced .... ohhh ;D

No problem with F5 and as muungwana did mention,

A certain version of KDE4 would not refresh folders when a kernel above a certain version was in use but this bug was supposed to be fixed on newer version of KDE. It looks like the bug is still there and people are seeing it and are just not bothered enough by it to complain.

I've had the Reload button on the toolbar for quite a while already and I use it when I copy a file onto a different folder and it isn't there. I hope the KDE devs notice this enough to fix it.

In the meantime, Reload(ed).  ;)  8)

Maybe T6 is right the Konqueror did this under 3.5. But I don't remember it that way. ;) I first noticed this behavior under kde4, and have just learned to refresh manually. I would like this corrected, so if anyone comes across a fix, please post!

mine too but is not constant

i have seen files i deleted 1 hour ago(from other app) along with new files just decompressed correctly reported

i just downloaded a 80KB file and dolphin couldn't see it, i had to refresh(minecraft)

as you see is something not constant, it is close to random, sometimes it works perfect but others it doesn't

as said before, it is a old error never solved between many os, some are better than others but still you find this error

nothing to worry, F5 is my friend and that is ok for me
