I've just installed PCLOS KDE 2010.12 along with a few hundred updates and additions to the programmes including version 4.something of Firefox. I realize that this version is still a "rookie" and may have some quirks. Perhaps my "quirk" is known?
Firefox will start and surf the 'net as directed. However, when I stop using any keys on the keyboard and read what's on screen, Firefox decides that it's no longer needed and shuts down. I'm back at the blue desktop screen with the icons and the blue bull (name forgotten).
My system is a rather old Gateway laptop
refurbished in about 2006 to be a "64-bit Powerhouse". I have 1 GB RAM, ATI card of some type and run it from the plug in the wall with a real keyboard and mouse. It is, in fact, my "desktop" PC.
Firefox 3.xx ran great (under another Linux OS) and did so using the LiveCD for PCLOS (burned 26.12.10) with no problem.
I installed Opera when FF began shutting down without being told to do so and found it totally different from FF. I'm using Konqueror to process this message and ask:
o Do I have a known "bug" in FF4? If so, has anything been done to fix it? Search of the forum came up with nothing. I may not have asked it to search correctly, however...
o Is this just my "old" laptop not wanting to come into the the 21st Century?
o Any suggestions as to what I should be doing to ensure FF stays on screen until I tell it to go back to its cubicle?
o Should I be considering another browser that my laptop may work with hand-in-hand if FF4 and it don't like each other?
