firefox - Segfault
« on: April 14, 2011, 04:57:43 AM »
Hi.

After full update by synaptic on one of my computer I have poroblem with firefox. System fully updated, kernel 2.37.4 and 26.38.2 tested, and when I'm trying open firefox getting error (as a root and user is the same!):
Code: [Select]
[ula@localhost ~]$ firefox
Naruszenie ochrony pamięci

and that mean (google traslator):
Quote
[ula@localhost ~]$ firefox
Segfault

Opera is working fine, everything else is OK, only firefox is dead. I tried removed (remove everythong!) firefox and install it again but didn't help... Even in safe-mode I'm getting that error. Did someone have similar problem or know solution ?
Any ideas ?

Thanks,
siamer

Code: [Select]
[wimwillemsen@localhost ~]$ firefox
NOTE: child process received `Goodbye', closing down
[wimwillemsen@localhost ~]$

Started and closed Firefox on my system with cli.

Did testing on full updated desktops  (KDE4. and Gnome2).

Please have patience, syncing to mirrors need some time.

..........Yes, i did all the posted "FIXES" -  even the "chown" stuff....to no avail...

There are more posts here :  http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,89833.0.html

....I will try again, for maybe somebody did some "updates" work by now...and will post here with an answer...

EDIT:   no dice.....I even removed LIBREOFFICE and FIREFOX - re installed - no dice.

The HEATHNET  is my repo.....i changed it to the swiss debian, and same result....

I'm thinking the problem of FIREFOX not opening - has something to do with the downloading of the LIBREOFFICE package..... ::) ???

JN.

If Texstar updated Sqlite today it may take a while for it to filter across to the mirrors, chill out and try an alterative browser or two while it synq's

.......I appreciate the communication, guys......... ;)   I acquired the 'coffee' repo, and it was syncd!

Seems FIREFOX had the snafu - now its up to 4.03....

I'm going to get a PASS account when all the moving is completed, and by the next release !

Somebody should get paid for these efforts....and all the rapid response here.....8)

I forgot about all the repos syncing - i did'nt think it was a repo problem - i thought i did something {like adding LIBROFFICE} to mess up the install......This was the first major snafu i encountered with LXDE - for quite a while...
My thanks to the Alladdin from Texas. ;)

Firefox 4.0.3 crashes
« Reply #9 on: April 14, 2011, 08:06:53 PM »
Hey there:

I just did a clean install of 2010.12 and then updated all packages. Before the updates Firefox 3.6.13 ran fine. When I first updated Firefox version 4.0.2 was the latest version in the repository - This evening it is FF 4.0.3. In either case FF will/would not launch. I did not install any FF addons or extentions - so it is the base install. I am running KDE 4.6.1.2.

When I try and launch FF from the terminal I get the following response "segmentation fault"

I have tried completely removing FF and M4 and then a reinstall of both the FF 4.0.2 and 4.0.3.

any suggestions would be appreciated

kde is currently in 4.6.2

you are not completely updated

please open synaptic and press reload button, mark all upgrades and then apply

please don't do partial updates

be sure that you updated xulrunner

if the problem persist after the update(restart machine to be sure) you can open firefox from konsole to see what errors are reported there

We already went thru this today....

http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,89833.0.html

...it seems the repos are syncing, and it takes a bit of time....The Devs are aware of it, and on top of things...

...check your repo list, and maybe try a different one...

I just got the update as well (ff 4.2-3), though still getting the segfault. Could someone advice me whether I should still just be patient (e.g. mirror sync issue - Heanet) or I am the odd one out?

Cheers!
