KDE and dim screen
« on: April 08, 2011, 01:37:08 PM »
Since upgrading(?) to 4.6.1 and 4.6.2 of kde my netbook (MSI Wind) has a very dim screen even when powered via ac and when I try to increase the brightness with the function keys it brightens momentarily but quickly (fluctuating) returns to a dim setting. The brightness of the screen is normal using other gui's such as lxde, xfce or gnome, therefore I have concluded that the problem is with kde. I was hoping the upgrade to 4.6.2 would solve the problem, but it didn't. I guess I'll use one of the other gui's until it's fixed. ???

Just a thought - have you checked in

Configure Your Desktop >> Hardware >> Power Management -

to see whether you can adjust/set the brightness level.

kde update deleted the power profiles, you have to recreate them, that happened when you updated to kde 4.6

we talked alot here in the forum about that(search is the first rule of the forum)

Thanks for the heads up, but that was the first thing I tried. But the settings still don't stick. It always returns to a very dim setting. Something is FUBAR.

Hi SrBueno,

That's a drag.  What happens when a new profile is created - does that disappear down the proverbial "back hole" too?  ;)

tried what?

I recreated the power profile. It seems the profile is ignored even though it remains as I created it. Maybe kde 4.6.3 will fix it. In the mean time I'll use lxde or xfce or (glup) even gnome.
