Running a now fully-updated Zen with current Metacity package, not using Compiz, everything good here.

So it is only with 3D desktop Compiz enabled correct? With 3D Compiz enabled do you get the options to minimize, maximize and close by right clicking on the top border?

Texstar,
Yes I'm using 3D Compiz and everything works but the minimize, maximize and close buttons, they don't show up on the title bar. So I have to right click on the title bar to do anything, but everything else works. It might have something to do with the new version of Metacity.

When you right-click and Restore the window are the buttons there?

Dunno, never have enabled Compiz, and now too scared to do so :D :D, lol, JK, if you want me to try I will.

From what I hear and see, this sounds like what gnome3 will be like, i'm now looking real hard at LXDE. :D
This aggression will not stand man.

Nope........Oh well I'll just right click the top bar to close, minimize & maximize, I'm not sure how this is going to work in Gnome 3?

Type in terminal: "compiz --replace" without quotatations.

or with the Fusion-Icon: select "metacity". then select back to "compiz".

Just a possible, but only temporary fix.

First of all: Be CAREFUL with "compiz --replace"

(and) Selecting metacity then back to compiz with the Fusion Icon gives the same result as this:

[ Here's a temporary solution:

Start the Compiz Fusion Icon from System/Administration.

The (blue) icon is displayed to the right on the upper taskbar, to the left of the network icon.

Right-click it (The Compiz of course).

Choose [Select Window Decorator]

Now - the GTK Window Decorator is already marked. So choose the other (Emerald).

Ok. You'll loose the current theme, but you do get the buttons. That is, until some MetaCity idiot makes up for his/her fault and fixes the bug.

Hope this'll help.]

I have the same problem, running a fully updated Zen Mini. I'm using Compiz and also tried changing themes, which didn't work. As a temporary fix I've downgraded to Metacity version 2.30-1pclos2010, once I logged out then back in the buttons returned. I can only assume something's changed in the newer Metacity package (2.34.0-1pclos2011).
How do we downgrade? Cant see version 2.30-1pclos2010 listed in synaptic. This fault/bug is really a pain in the ***

Running Zen Mini on this machine, and noticed the issue after enabling Compiz last night. Installed Emerald and it's themes, added the Fusion-Icon, and under Select Window Decorator (one of the options in the Fusion-Icon), chose Emerald. Works fine now, buttons all good. Just add Fusion-Icon to the start list, and everything is fine. Cheers. :)
There is no shame in saying "I don't know".
