E17 light version pclos, fully updated fresh install, used synaptic to install
xine, xine-ui, xine-jack, and xine-plugins

xine crashes the system when attempting to load a media file, forcing reboot,
whether choosing the file from the xine gui, choosing xine as the file player from pcmanfm,
or from a command to play a file.

xine xine-bugreport xine-check xine-remote are in /usr/bin,
libxine.so.1 and libxine.so.1.2.9.0 are in usr/lib
and xine-plugins are in /usr/lib/xine/plugins/1.29

/usr/lib/emotion has xine.la and xine.so

libxine1 lists these dependencies when using synaptic to
remove it:

emodules ecomorph ecomp elemnetary emotion enlil ethumb python-elementary python-emotion python-ethumb

vlc and mplayer, installed at the same time, are both working.
Any tips are welcome. Cheers

Hi,

I just installed it, with xine-ui, xine-plugins and libnvtvsimple0 (dependancy). No xine-jack : what do you use it for ?

I started an ogv movie from within pcmanfm, it works, from the console, it works. I don't have other format video files to test on it, at the moment. Here is the output of my console:

Quote
$ xine Volkswagen\ Commercial\ The\ Force\ \(Toyota\ Parody\).ogv
Voici xine (X11 gui) - un lecteur vidéo libre v0.99.5.
(c) 2000-2007 L'Equipe de xine.

You can notice it's even a file with spaces in the name. What about starting xine from console and give it a video file name as an argument, to show us what is the message in your install ?

"xine crashes the system when attempting to load a media file, forcing reboot,
whether choosing the file from the xine gui, choosing xine as the file player from pcmanfm,
or from a command to play a file."

Unfortunately, crash in this case is instant black screen, no chance for terminal output, but I did
some fast Control-z once, and there were mentions of Cups and Wine servers launching, then

"rpc.nfsd writing to kernel failed: errno 111 (connection refused) rpc.nfsd:unable to set any sockets"

Since vlc and mplayer, installed at the same time, are both working,
it's very odd behavior, for a mature app, probably the fast moving 'E' has a broken/missing component.

Cheers

After a full update on 4/27 the xine is again working.
Calling it solved.
