Is a program necessary?  Delete the sensitive data, then fill up the flash drive with any other stuff you have laying around
then delete that too.

If you really want to nuke it forever, download DBAN life cd: www.dban.org.

Be sure to chose the correct drive!
All that is is good. PCLinuxOS is.

Thinkpad X61 Tablet, Core2Duo 1.66 MHz, 4 GB Ram, Intel onboard Graphics, Plextor PX-256M3 256 GB SSD; Thinkpad R61i, Core2Duo 1.66 MHz, 2 GB Ram, Intel onboard graphics, 120 GB HDD

I use PCManFM to delet files from my USB thumb drives. I mount the drive and open it with PCManFM. In PCManFM > Edit > Preferences, uncheck Move deleted files to "trash bin." This activates the "delete forever" function. I then delete the files I need to, unmount the drive and remove it. Then rest the trash.
To check that the files are gone, remount the drive, open it and have a look.

Of course formatting the drive twice will remove all the files on it and make them irrecoverable.

Yes PCMan FM is a good program
but what I need is:
A similar program dban but work with USB and microSD memory for linux
In another operating system if this program exists.

You didn't say that it was for another OS. If you don't provide full details, we can only answer to the details you give.

How about SHRED ? I guess you can install it from Synaptic.

If the other machine os is windows you could use a program called Eraser http://sourceforge.net/projects/eraser/.

That's one I use on my Window's machine, it will erase a usb, some programs will only do harddisks.

Hope this helps.

Shred works on a file by file basis, not an entire drive. It's a command line tool and the command would be either

shred -fuvzn <number of passes> <filename>.<extension>                                <Enter>

for a single file, or if all the files in a single directory are to be wiped;

shred -fuvzn  <number of passes> *.*                                <Enter>

As to your assessment of DBAN, I think you are wrong, as I've used it to blank USB drives. Linux sees all drives as /dev/sd<something>, and DBAN can be pointed at any drive designated as such.

Of what use be there for joy, if not for the sharing thereof?

I don't need to install anything else. shred works great for me. Two to five passes depending on how large the file size should be enough to securely scramble the data that it would be next to impossible to reassemble.
