Moonlight work fine in Firefox 3.6.16,  the update to Firefox 4 does not work...

I had to download Firefox 3.6.16 form the mozilla website... took quite a bit of searching...  extract the firefox folder to my home drive..
there is no install....... execute firefox shell script.

now get moonlight stable 2.4 xpi and install...
set up a link to it on your desktop----you now can used your silverlight sites again...

One gripe.... why I cannot install 3.6.16 through repositories is a wonder?  Why the need to upgrade to Firefox 4? There should be a choice.. I can not get the htmls to open with Firefox 3.6.16 and I have tried...

I have KDE fully updated and FF4-- I went to the sites you put up and it asked to download the MS codecs then it played. I did the second site and it played also. Said some videos not available in my area-USA, but rest worked fine. I have moonlight installed.

Yeah, (?) thankyou, will check that out :-
So install Moonlight stable 2.4 xpi from http://go-mono.com/moonlight/stable.aspx, just as you would a Firefox Addon,  and download MS codecs when initiating a silverlight Video online. Sounds simple.

I downloaded - -  and got message:
Novell Moonlight could not be Installed as it is not compatible with Firefox 4.0.1

Edited: Followed given instructions No Luck.

A couple of weeks ago I installed a new version of the Moonlight plugin for Firefox from http://go-mono.com/moonlight/. It works well on most sites with Silverlight content, which is a large improvement. But it works only in Firefox.

There is also a version of it for Chromium, but so far I haven't got the plugin to work in Opera.

Thankyou for your feedback Bald Brick. I'm taking 'Baby steps with this'. I will try your suggestion though, thanks.
It's not often that I come across Siverlight content, it is annoying however when you can't watch a Video.

My ISP Telstra Bigpond (Australia) has an odd system of when using PCLinuxOS all videos are presented in Silverlight format, whereas in Win XP they are Flash. Go figure  ;D

Thanks, BaldBrick!! That works like a charm. Just went to the bigpond link Francis posted and everything plays, as long as it's available in my area.

The last Guitar Center survey I got was a TV ad preview in Silverlight, and wouldn't play. Didn't know it was Silverlight until I emailed them and got their response. I chewed them out for changing the format. They claimed others were having "problems" with the previous video formats. I wonder if they'll send me another survey?  ;)

Hey, hey, hey, yes, thanks BaldBrick, I have silverlight Videos's playing.
Thanks djohnston it is a "Firefox Addon", I thought it was in the repos as I said awhile back, but you are absolutely correct.

If you can, have a look at a NRL Rugby League match, Australia has the highest standard of players in the world, and they often perform 80 minutes of magic !

Thankyou guys, I reckon this is Solved.

I reckon this is Solved.

It was. It isn't anymore. The upgrade to Firefox 5.0 broke the Moonlight plugin. Don't upgrade if you need Silverlight content.

Yep. Noticed that, too. Mono support is fleeting, at best.

Didn't last long did it  :D -

Time will tell if this again will become resolved via the Moonlight Fx plugin ...

I've got the moonlight extension to work again.

I simply installed the Firefox "Add-on Compatibility Reporter 0.85". (What a name for an extension.) Then I restarted Firefox and the "Compatibility Reporter" allowed me to mark the Moonlight extension for compatibility. I restarted Firefox once more and was able to watch a Silverlight program. Moonlight doesn't seem to work quite as well as before, but well enough.

I had less luck when I tried to follow these instructions: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Editing_an_add-on_to_change_its_compatibility. After some Googling I found that I should also remove the META-INF folder before I re-zipped the .xpi archive. I did so, but Firefox still considered the add-on corrupt.

But the "Compatibility Reporter" let me mark Moonlight as compatible. (This isn't its intended use, but so what?)

I've mentioned this add-on before, and whether or not Firefox intended for it to make older add-ons work, that is what I use it for. I strongly recommend it and here is the link:

Had it installed before and I didn't work. I thought the new one might but alas I get "Not compatible with Firefox five." when I try. Maybe I'll try Silverlight in Firefox in Wine again.
