Sound Balance application?

Hi All

I have a collection of sound (music) files from various sources. They are mainly MP3, WMA and some OGG.
The problem is that the sound levels, when played, are all over the place!!
I remember some time back I found an application that you could run on a folder and it would even out all these levels so that they were almost all at the same level. Unfortunately I can't remember the name of the application and don't seem to find it when I 'Google' for it.
Can anyone help me out with the name of this application please?? Thanks!!

You can find it in the repos and it also has a nice GUI called easymp3gain.

Hey agmg  - to see if I could offer any help to ianw - I tried to install easymp3gain ) but it's throwing up the following message when installing easymp3gain-0.5.0-1pclos2010:

Could not parse file "/usr/share/applications/Rfm-root.desktop": Key file contains line ' ?? ?' which is not a key-value pair, group, or comment
Warning in file "/usr/share/applications/nautilus-folder-handler.desktop": usage of MIME type "x-directory/gnome-default-handler" is discouraged ("x-directory" is an old media type that should be replaced with a modern equivalent)

The other applications I installed at the same time and all installed okay except easymp3gain

Installed the following packages:
aacgain (1.8-1pclos2010)
easymp3gain (0.5.0-1pclos2010)
mp3gain (1.5.2-1pclos2012)
vorbisgain (0.37-3pclos2010)

mp3gain is a command line tool.
easymp3gain is a gui for mp3gain, aacgain and vorbisgain and calls these command line tools as dependencies.
But I get no additional messages after installing them. I guess these are only warning messages and nothing serious.

Have you tried normalizing a few mp3 files to see if the program works as expected?

Could try using normalize from the command line, which I believe is installed by default.

It's a fairly "old" application - but as they quite often are - it's simple to use.

Because easymp3gain needs them as dependencies...

After reading this thread, I installed mp3gain and easymp3gain,it also brought in aacgain and vorbisgain with no errors.

I used easymp3gain to normalize my collection of mp3s. There must be a bug in the app though, because I kept getting a popup that said "Access Error..... continue risking file corruption". I could chose OK or Cancel. Cancel kills the app, OK lets it continue. It happened every time I moved the cursor. I had to leave the mouse alone during the entire process. It did finally complete the process and I think it worked.

I think that this problem occurs when there are no tags in the mp3 files.
At least it worked that way for me: after the error appeared I chose not to continue. Checked all the mp3 files and realized that the problem was with the ones that had no tags at all. When I put tags on them, the problem did not reappear...

That's possible I guess. It doesn't explain why I only got the popup when I moved the mouse. I noticed it even before I started the normalization process. If I left the mouse alone, it went through the whole process. Anyway, it did the job so I'm not complaining. I just thought I'd mention it.
