ive updated the install rpm to the latest version from reply 237, i have also included the require of glib-networking to allow Hammer to use TSL/SSL Secure logins.

Download the latest version

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/5639762/pclinuxos-hammer-0.0.1.4-1Sproggy2011.i586.rpm

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/5639762/pclinuxos-hammer-0.0.1.4-1Sproggy2011.src.rpm

To install the rpm go to the folder in which you downloaded the rpm to, open terminal session in that folder

su to root

enter the following command to install the rpm and get the dependencies required

apt-get install pclinuxos-hammer-0.0.1.4-1Sproggy2011.i586.rpm

Kori

kori.. can you tell me which packages were pulled in extra with this rpm ??  can't see it in synaptic history ?

Hmmm...I had a problem with my gnome clock-applet not working this morning, no matter what I did it wouldn't load and kept giving me error messages. I didn't think to check the dependency packages pulled in. rats, and I didn't even save log reports.

yep .. the glib-networking packages messed up radiotray .. couldn't get any radio station to play ..just crashed every time I tried ..

glib-networking wouldnt mess with your gnome-applet .... especially not a clock ... as for the radiotray ... i wouldnt have thought that would have messed with that unless it was trying to connect securely ... if thats the case then i would check the settings of the app ... glib-networking is gonna be required by Hammer for logging into secure sites ...

Scoundrel

Looks like it wants to connect to a gnome proxy? (dialing home somwhere?)

iirc there has been previous issues with radiotray.

Is it gnome dependent as the glib net app should not wipe out audo streaming.

I tested the cmus app with

cmus-remote http://icecast3.977music.com/classicrock

it took a coupleof seconds to play but did so with out issue

I also note that radiotray is 'just' front end to sox/play so I tried

play -t mp3 http://icecast3.977music.com/classicrock

Again played  perfectly.

I would say that its the spurrious call home to gnome thats the issue and is not hammer related

anyone up for making a systray app for the 'play command that does not all home? lol)

Regarding dependencies, I find that using the "rpm -ivh filename.rpm" will tell me of any unmet dependencies.  I then manually install them through Synaptic.  That way I know at the time what went in, plus Synaptic has a specific record in its history.  Not that I'm doing naughty things, of course :D

+1  Any app that I find to be calling home, I remove. IMO, there is no excuse for such behavior from a coder.
