Gentlemen - for those of you defending pclos or linux, or suggesting I buy supported hardware, the 3 wifi cards I have are supported by the linux kernel. Linux and pclos are not the problem - the drivers in the Linux kernel are inferior to the drivers windows is supplied with by the wifi card manufacturers. Anybody that uses the above mentioned intel and ralink chipsets in xp and linux will see the difference regarding connection ability. Just go to a few hotels and airports and you will see as I have how much better the supplied windows drivers are re connecting and speed. Ralink and Intel are NOT supplying Linux with the same quality drivers as windows gets. Still pisses me off !

Well, at least she isn't using Windows. :o. I don't bash other distros. However, when I decided to quit using that M distro myself, and announced as much on their forum, several members there replied that PCLinuxOS is a fine distro. So, there seems to be warmth towards PCLinuxOS, certainly among some members of the Mepis forums. So, I am not about to bash  them here.

PCLinuxOS and Mepis Linux are very community driven (don't  know it's right word?).

I read sometimes their forum also and when it's about other distrobutions there's lot of respect to PCLinuxOS, or Mepis

Only PCLinuxOS have most craziest, most funniest and "worst" Sandbox (j/k)  ;D ;D ;D

Possible that there is more to this than your drivers? http://www.calebscreek.com/2010/05/how-to-increase-your-wireless-network-card-speed-in-debian-linux/

The Edimax cards always show good results for me if that is any help.
