installing 2010
« on: March 22, 2011, 06:20:11 PM »
I know Texstar is always busy keeping things up to date. So I'm not sure if he is the only one that maybe able to look into this or if someone else could.

I posted a problem back when we first went to a 2010 version. The install would fail on my "new" machine.

New Hardware
MB - MSI K9N6PGM2
CPU AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5000+
SATA Controller  nVidia Corporation ‎MCP61 SATA Controller
HD sda Seagate Technology 1000340AS 1TB
sdb Western Digital Corp. WD10EAVS-00D 1TB

The install would go through (the progress bar going all the way across), but never get to the next window (the grub setup). This started happening when I added the second HD. I was able to install to a partition if I disconnected either one of the HD's. I would then have to modify several files on the install to be able to have both HD's available (I have various versions loaded on different partitions and many other misc data, music, etc partitions.

I was able to install older PCLOS versions with both HD's connected. I have also installed many other distros with this setup.

My original post never got any successful answer and I left it because I found that I was able to install with one HD and then reset things to work.

I just got curious again so I:
Installed Zen Mini (it was small)
Deleted the draklive-install
Copied draklive-install from a 2007
Made a mylive CD
and was able to install it with both HD's connected.
I had a few problems because of differences like /etc/draklive-install.d etc on the new not the old, but did get it to work.

Just for fun I downloaded the latest Mandriva and found that I had similar problems trying to install it on my "new" machine.

So after a long story the old installer works fine on this setup, but 2010 doesn't. I know nothing about programming or even scripting ( can barely read the scripts). Can anyone figure out what is different with the installers. The new works fine on other machines with 2 IDE HD's, but fails at least on this machine with 2 SATA HD's (OK with 1 SATA HD)
