[SOLVED] Firefox 4 status bar?
« on: March 22, 2011, 02:39:07 AM »
On two fully updated installs of KDE, I get no status bar at the bottom of Firefox.

Without it, I can not access the site settings button for NoSquint which is normally on the right end of the status bar.

The status bar does show the link on the left side of the status bar when I hover the cursor over a link. But only so long as the cursor is over the link.

As soon as I move the cursor, the status bar goes away and does not show "done" on the left hand side or the NoSquint button on the right hand side as it usually does.

I created a new test profile with no add-ons and there is still no status bar.

Is anyone else seeing this?

Right click on the firefox menu bar (File, Edit, View and so on) and check that Navigation Toolbar is selected.

Thanks Neal.

It is selected already.

Does your response mean that the status bar is showing on your machine?

Thanks guys, that did it.

I must admit though that I was thinking unkind thoughts when I read it. I was thinking "oh no! yet another ubiquitous bar that someone wants to add to my browser thus stealing more space from this small 15 inch display".

Happily, that was not the case.

I just hate the trend of  software venders who insist on trying to trick me into installing yet another tool bar by  burying it somewhere in their updates.

It is a real sore point with me.

Just noticed an added bit of tweaking on the FF4. Most of the status bar is now called the addon bar, as mentioned above. The STATUS that used to be on the status bar pops up in its old location (lower left corner, sometimes lower right) when you hover over a link. Downloading, transferring from, the address of the link, all those pop up as needed/when called, just above the addon bar.  Right now, mine is reading Done for this page. Now if I can just get rid of that hideous red X on the addon bar. Tried customize and dragging it, no joy.
