No, you get those drivers by rebuilding the repo version of VB. Sometimes Tex does that, and sometimes I do. As neither of us has done that yet, the packages are still at their old versions.

Hi kjpetrie,

I think tests from several persons would not be bad to suggest, whenever we will be brought to switch entirely to 4.0.4 or maybe higher when new ones will be published. I have not yet finished testing all possibilities I wish to try for the OSE older version, and it still seems to me the best choice at the moment. (And obviously all this takes looots of time ! :) )

Isn't it going to naturally work very less well in a Virtualbox machine of a higher number version ?

I personally haven't experienced any downside using the existing 3.2.12 drivers but not having used the 4.0.4 versions I don't know what additional functions - if any - they may provide, but yes it can be better to have the same version Nos.

Mebbe it's possible that Tex wanted to stay with the 3.2.12 drivers to cater for VBox users who haven't installed 4.0.4 - and as is quite common it's easier being "backward" compatible then "forward" compatible...........

With the new 4.0.4 Guest additions my VM desktops would not automatically resize to fit the window, as they should. Instead the background stayed the same size and horizontal and vertical scroll bars appear when the window size is shrunk. I un-installed the 4.0.4 guest additions, then reinstalled the 3.2.12 guest additions and all is again fine.

Oh ?
Do I understand correctly ? I understand that you are using the 3.2.12 guest additions into the 4.0.4 version Virtualbox ?

I'm using the 4.0.4 Guest Additions and they work perfectly, Windows resize by grabbing the edge and it works better than they've ever done (or the menu can be used)

I find the simplest way for me - in KDE 4.6.1 - is dragging the guest window to the corner of the screen (left corner in my case) and it then resizes "automatically" to fill the whole screen (except for my regular panel)

PCLinuxOS 32bit KDE 4.10.1; kernel-3.4.11-pclos1.bfs & 64bit 3.2.18bfs; NVidia GeForce 8400GS 1GB 310.19 driver

Sony Vaio SVE1513A4ESI Laptop, Intel Core i5, 2.6GHz, 6GB RAM, 750GB, 15.6" Intel HD Graphics 4000

And if you want to work with a half sized VM window, do the contents shrink to fit the size of the Window? Can you see the entire Guest desktop in a reduced size window?

Yes, when on the "machine" drop down menu Auto-Resize Guest Display is highlighted.

That's what doesn't work for me with the 4.0.4 guest additions. Something similar can be achieved with the Switch to Scale Mode (Host+C) but then the Machine, Devices, and Help menus are not available.

Old-Polack, the screenshots you have shown me for installing the Virtualbox Guest Additions look very much like a Windows wizard : am I wrong ? When I install guest additions from the main window of the virtualbox, it opens the vbox guest addition iso in a pcmanfm window where I can execute the sh file or the run for the install (provided I'm root in console or in the pcmanfm window).

I was wondering if you were using vbox 4.0.4 in a Windows install ? Or maybe in a Windows installed in the virtual machine ?

Those were from the Win2K VM that I use for my scanner that has no Linux drivers. In the Linux VMs I do the guest additions installation from a terminal, and execute the *.run file directly.

Gah.  All you people talking about 4.04, I may have to upgrade mine soon on my Linux box out of curiosity.

Old-Polack : is your scanner USB, PS2, or parallel ? (Curiosity and technical interest)

USB. It's an Epson Stylus CX5800F all-in-one unit. There are Linux printer drivers for it, and they work well, but no Linux scanner drivers have ever been issued. The Windows drivers work well with the Win2K VM, so I scan in that and pass the images through a shared folder to the PCLinuxOS host for further processing and use. I'd prefer scanning with Xsane, but this is the next best thing, because it works. ;D
