Melodie

The defaults are very bare compared to coffeetime's post

as seen in this post http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,84951.msg741473.html#msg741473

Jase

Hi, what is under the apps ? Is it plain black ?

At the moment yes, ther is no wall paper I have started to theme it , but even that will be minimal, I hope (IceWM) to have border-less  inactive windows wit the active window have a 1pixel red boarder, its almost there, for the wallpaper I may play wit the WMii wall paper and include some keybindings to quicklaunch apps

At this stage the look takes third place, after functionality and scalability

Hi,

If you have something such as a autostart file, you could use feh to display a wallpaper.
ie:
Code: [Select]
feh --bg-scale "$(find /usr/share/wallpapers/wallpaper.jpg -type f)" &

Just19,

....

as  for mp3 playback there is cmus which is very capable.

Jase

Could I suggest so that you edit the first post to reflect that?

I did not try cmus, having read the your post  ;)  and never having heard of it previously.

I hope to get a chance to run it again soon and try cmus.

regards.

Just found out that I had neglected to install pcmciautils - this will be included on next iso.

Also I will be adjusting the autostart of net applet and volti as together these take up 16megs of uasable ram, They will be available by un commenting the entries in /home/<username>/.wmii-hg/wmiirx_local and restarting X.

This leaves a boot up ram usage circa 45megs with X.

If some one could porvide ram usage at boot for a 'virgin' install foe each environment it would be useful to me(ise infobash -v3)

Thanks

Hi,

I had someone comparing Openbox Bonsai and ArchCtk (same kind of configuration, but one is the model I used to make some of the configurations : Openbox on Archlinux) and the man who was testing it told me that with an initramfs would save ram in the live, instead of having an initrd. Do you think it would be possible for use to make the remasters with an initramfs instead of initrd ? I'll bring back the link to the screenshot he shaw me, next. Now I'm a bit in a hurry.

Melodie,

With -light I want to keep it to as close to how the main releases are set up, despite it being built up idependantly, I think that there is an inherrent risk that by introducing a 'different way' that the support element may change dramatically to the point that a fix that works on a main release that fails on -light (and vice versa), which to me is counter-productive.

Should  initramfs be introduced into the main releases then it will adopted by -light as a matter of course.

On another note I am looking at producing (purely for fun /friends and those mad enough to be interested)  a lighter - but still productivly usable - iso also (yes its possible folks) the name I am considering is pCLInuxOS - which gives an idea where thats going.... (Texstar I promise  will stop this after I get it 'outamysystem' :) lol)

Hi Jase,

I am not suggesting to publish versions that are different from the main release, but if I knew how to get an initramfs instead of an initrd when remastering I would test it, then if the results show that it can bring benefits and spare the resources in a Live (as initramfs is loaded in the RAM, but then once the Live session starts, it is unloaded, therefore freeing the RAM for other processes), then I would report all theses results at the forum. Then, I'll see if this idea makes it's way... :)

Obviously, all persons who have recent powerful machines can't be interested, but for the machines P1 if there are still any, P2, and Celeron, that might be interesting.

Hi,
a bit late to the party?
I've tried IcedLatte. I don like Ice wm. Even it has a theme called Windows 95 and a  Windows logo for the menu!  :o
When I try to logout or shutdown, it doesn't. I try it it from the menubar, from the contextual menu and from a terminal with : "shutdown -t now".  I wanted to try it with fluxbox, but I couldn't logout and change session. I had to shutdown pressing the power botton 5 sec.

Many times when I try a live cd, the distro logins in a resolution of 800x600. I guess this is a problem of my laptop. It happens also with IcedLatte now.

IceWM comes with several themes. If you don't like one, don't use it. There are more to choose from. :D

In IceWM, there is no shutdown in the menu. Use the logout menu entry, and then shutdown and reboot will be available at the login screen.

Sounds like a hardware issue. Without more information, all anyone can do is guess.

My laptop is a HP ProBook 4310s
 Intel Celeron dual-core cpu T3000 @ 1.80GHz
 2G RAM
 Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD

I don't know what other information could be useful for that,  just tell me.

McX,
Boot the liveCD, open Menu > More Applications > Configuration > Configure your computer (usually called PCC or PCLinuxOS Control Center). In PCC, click Hardware from the menu on the left. In Hardware, click Browse and configure hardware. Give it time to run through the detection of your hardware. From the menu on the left, click to expand the Videocard entry. Now click on the listing for your card. Details of your card will be in the pane to the right. These entries tell us about your card:
Description: (post what it shows)
Media class: (post what it shows)
Misc
Module: (post what it shows)

At the bottom you will see "Run config tool." Run it to see which driver is in use and to change it, if necessary. Check the resolution and set it to your correct resolution. Once you've made adjustments, close out all running applications. Log out. Log in. Did your settings stick?

Let us know which driver was set for your videocard and which you changed to.
