I am very Glad to announce the first public (Beta-Test) release of PCLinuxOS-Light (Iced Latte) Edition
Whats this?PCLinuxOS Light is the natural progression of the concept behind the WMii iso release, Scalability and usability as light as humanly possible.
Whats this mean? PCLinuxOS-Light will always try to provide a base that provides all that you need to be productive, on any machine you install it on that falls within its minimum specifications require.
What are the minimum specifications? As with the WMii iso the minimaum spec's I have repeatedly installed on are Pentium 2 with 112megs of RAM - I fully believe that it can be installed on lower specs although have yet been able to get the time to do so.
Whats the difference between this and the WMii iso?Lots, PCLinuxOS-Light has been built from the ground-up from a truly minimal iso provided by etjr. It is not based on Zen-Mini as WMii iso was.
it also uses IceWM as the default - the other WM's are available at the GDM- login screen
Which desktop environment does it provide.Like the WMii iso this is not a 'DE' release, I have chosen 3 of the finest windowmanagers in this release WMii, FluxBox and IceWM
As this is the beta release - the WMii is configured as per the WMii iso, Fluxbox is as per the repo install and IceWM shows the signs of being themed by madman
Another big difference is that you can almost have a fully productive environment in run level 3 you can surf (with pictures in frame buffer) via w3m, read emails (alpine) use mc filemanager, write (using either mcedit or pico) and even watch youtube/other online and local video material (via mplayer in framebuffermode)
There is a slight change to the applications compared to the WMii iso.
