;D ;D

Thanks Andy

Can you let me know what version of Pidgin you were using?

***

I tried different accounts on the PC, including root account, and no difference.

***

I have tried reinstalling Pidgin to no effect ......  but that would be similar to installing afresh on the other PC, so not unexpected.

***

Is it possible that Google set all accounts to refuse access from apps such as Pidgin?

I know I didn't  :(   I also know it was working before I shut down last night.

***

This situation is really puzzling .......

[andrzejl@wishmasbell ~]$ rpm -qa | grep pidgin
skype4pidgin-1.4-2pclos2010
pidgin-2.7.11-1pclos2011
[andrzejl@wishmasbell ~]$

I am fully updated from Pass account.

Also try reinstalling sasl stuff. It may be ssl handshake error.

It wouldn't enable for me coz I typed in xxx.zzz@gmail.com as login. @gmail.com was moved to domain entry box and domain was gmail.com@gmail.com.

I removed @gmail.com and I left login as xxx.zzz and domain gmail.com. After this all was peachy.

HTTPS is used when opening gmail in a browser.

Yup, but I also use HTTPS Everywhere which uses HTTPS for all Google stuff and can modify how you access your account.
PCLinuxOS 32bit KDE 4.10.4; kernel-3.4.11-pclos1.bfs & 64bit 3.4.38bfs; NVidia GeForce 8400GS 1GB 310.19 driver

Gmail is using https anyway 100% of time.

Pidgin connected using default GTalk settings... Not jabber - xmpp but gtalk.

I guess we will never know   ......  :(  :(

I, having rebooted several times, and using different kernels, and doing as much as I could think of, finally rebooted into a Mandy Live session on USB, that I had downloaded for testing a couple of weeks ago.

In that session I used Kopete to set up a Jabber/Google account, using the same account details as I have been using all along .........  and it connected.

Great I thought, reboot into the main PCLOS and use Kopete .......  so have just now booted into PCLOS again ........  and Pidgin is working as it should !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Arghhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!

I give up.
There is no way for me to explain this.

 :'( :-* :-\ :-X :-[ ??? ??? ??? :( >:(

It's not client fault. It's not distro. It was gmail all along.

They had problems with some services. That' all. I am using jabber.org for IM and https://gmx.com for mail. Much less problematic. I recall few situations like this in the past. If instead of rebooting You would just wait You would get the same result.
