Pruning the forum database.
Thanks AndyCan you let me know what version of Pidgin you were using?***I tried different accounts on the PC, including root account, and no difference.***I have tried reinstalling Pidgin to no effect ...... but that would be similar to installing afresh on the other PC, so not unexpected.***Is it possible that Google set all accounts to refuse access from apps such as Pidgin?I know I didn't I also know it was working before I shut down last night.***This situation is really puzzling .......

HTTPS is used when opening gmail in a browser.
