Pressing "2" in Gedit ends the session!
« on: March 20, 2011, 01:37:07 PM »
Ew, this is very strange, using Zen in VMWare and fire up Gedit - every time I change the Changelog section (and only the Changelog) when packaging RPM's the session ends (as if I press alt+ctrl+backspace) - when I login again I can type 2 for the rest of the session....

have no clue what is happening here :-)

Is it that the gedit session ends? Or that the vmware session ends? ???
Can you check what keyboard shortcuts are enabled?

I have read a thread about it on this forum.

I know that Just19 was taking a active part in it... Can't locate it now but I know that pressing 2 was messing up X session or something.

It appeared when running LiveUSB .......  we never did find a solution to the problem ........

immediately after logging in to the DE, press '2' which dumos you out again, and then log in and all is well from then on.

This is the first I heard of this occurring when installed ......  in a VM or otherwise.

regards.

@Neal, it's the login session - just like pressing ctrl-alt-backspace,

this is a plain-vanilla zen with only build tools,

glad to know it's not just me and it's being looked at,

let me know if I can help,

cheers,
MBantz

I have been following the unfolding saga of the "@2" pathogen with interest for some time now...

For those who might like to narrow the search for the cause>
A few weeks ago I created a Live USB (isohybrid) stick containing my old remaster of PCLOS 2009.1 (4Gig)  including a bunch of games - SSam/CWolf/WC111/ etc...
This was based on KDE 3.5.10 & kernel 2.6.26.tex3.  (I'm using it now... @@@@222222@@@@222)

There is no "@2" problem evident!!

This "@2" issue appears to be a KDE 4.X problem or a more recent 2.6.3+ kernel related instability.

If Zen is affected, it won't be KDE related.

Hi Martin,
I can not reproduce this behavior using Gedit in Zen in VMWare. Maybe this is specific to the spec-file you edit?

Hi Pinoc,

it must have happened around 10-15 times now. It appear it has no relation to specfiles - as I have just tried to start the VM and pressing 2@@22@@22@@ in a console, and nothing happens - then fire up gedit in a new file and press 2, then boom!

I run vmware 3.0.1 build-227600, host and vm both Zen fully updated

EDIT: Same thing happens in nano - but after logging in again no issues. Think I perhaps try to update vmware or such

Hi Martin,

again, can not replicate this problem. You say you use VMWare on host and guest so I assume you use VMWare Linux desktop and the current version of that is 7.1. But the version you specified looks more like you use VMWare-Fusion (current 3.1.2), which is what I use here and which works fine. If you use VMWare-Fusion please update to the latest version and see if that helps. Note that the VMWare-Tools with the latest version of VMWare will only compile when using 2.6.33.7. Any newer PCLOS-kernel requires a patched version of VMWare-tools which I can send you in this case.
best,
-p.

allrighty,

updated VMWare Player (this is what I use, don't know the other VMWare stuff) to version 3.1.3 build-324285, just got it from their site - updated the tools as well.

Apart from my entire machine and the vm seems faster than before (or is it the moon??:-) the "2" thing still happens, it restarts X - but after login all is fine, thankfully,

apparently it doesn't matter where I press "2" in the initial X session - just fired up a console in the vm and pressed "3" just for fun, no reaction and then "2" and again boom.

The only special thing I have going on is the keyboard changed to danish - haven't even changed the timezone - this keeps it as plain vanilla as possible for building :-)
