Right Click Menu
« on: March 18, 2011, 09:31:42 PM »
Where is the xml file for the right click applications menu stored? I still edit them the old fashion way and its not stored in /home/*username*/.config/menus like I am used to. I am competent with linux so no need for a tutorial or anything. Thanks : )

Escapingsummer,

I know there are probably some very astute Xfce users in our forum, but 1> they haven't responded yet and 2> I'm not one of them (being part of that great 'unwashed' who just enjoys but does not analyze the mechanics of my window manager  ;)).

Until better help comes along, have you considered asking this question on the Xfce forum? They may provide a more timely response:

Here's hoping you find the 'guru of your dreams' for this question...

I belong there as well. I am an Xfce developer :) and documentation writer too. However each distro seems to place this file somewhere different....so until then I will continue searching for it.

I just perused the magazine special editon for XFCE and the files seem to be in usr/share/applications. Hope this helps a bit

Sorry Sproggy its the actual menu file that the right click applications menu pulls from. Its the same kind of file the panel menu pulls to make the panel menu. I don't use desktop icons or an OS X like dock, so I edit the right click apps menu to show only shortcuts.  :-\ I will continue looking for it though...

Sorry I just realized that I may have been misleading with the xml file. Its actually a .menu file that I am looking for, I found t he one and edited the applications.menu file that the panel menu pulls from however I cannot seem to find where the right click menu pulls from...it is an exact copy as the default panel menu however it isn't stored in the same location and both catfish and searchmonkey cannot seem to find the darned thing...

I located the file. It is in a rather odd place. For those of you whom are interested the file is located in etc/X11/xdg/menus and should be name xfce-applications.menu
