Problem solved.

I noticed that SharedObjects in the working account are stored under ~/.macromedia/Flash_Player/#SharedObjects with some info in other files under ~/.macromedia. I then noticed that my primary user didn't even have a .macromedia folder in his home directory. There was only what seemed to be a backup called .macromedia.sav. So I copied .macromedia from my other user's home folder and changed owner, group and permissions. Problem solved.

A still don't understand what had renamed ~/.macromedia into ~/.macromedia.sav. When I myself rename a file or a folder to retain it as a backup I usually add the extension .old and sometimes .new or .backup. I don't use .sav. Oh well...

Once more, thank you for your help, menotu and 7272andy. Without you I wouldn't have known where to start looking.

I was having similar problems, but in my case it was adblock+ that was causing them.  I removed the item with most hits and it was OK after that - but now I have to put up with the annoying ads that precede many of the BBC videos.
How does one become a hero?  By asking a lot of dumb questions apparently! I have three computers of various ages, the most powerful is a Dell Netbook 10v; each has 2 or 3 versions of PCLOS of various vintages.  Location, St John's, Newfoundland.

I was looking why Opera no longer will play YouTube clips, and searched forum and came across this thread.  the last bit about the .macromedia.sav suddenly showing up. I am wondering if this is one of those, 'safety' measures when you upgrade an application that the existing settings get saved for you to recover easily your custom settings.

As an example one could early loose kde4 settings when updating (and sort of without thinking about this until the damage was done)   :)

Because of the .old can be used by others I have taken to add .my-initials (slight gnome problem here), or .my-frist-name those two is unlikely to be used by any upgrade program.

You're probably right. Strange though that .sav was added to the .macromedia directory of one of my users but not to that of the other one.

I may follow your example.  :D

I forgot about the two users, yes why did they not both get done. The only thought here is that perhaps it was triggered by the use of macromedia at a particular site.  I give up  ;D
