@ms_meme

The obvious one, you should not have a bezier_envelope_update_0.48 in your inkscape extensions. You should have the bezierenvelope.py and .inx files there. So unpack the zip somewhere else and copy those files over.

I'm using 2010 KDE so there is a root file manager already set up in File Tools, Konqueror Super User mode. (not my favourite, never seen the rational for a combined web browser & file manager,  but it is there). A couple of screen shots that might help.

http://www.imageno.com/x3qb8ha8058upic.html

First one, start up konqueror (in su mode) *twice*.  Find the inkscape extensions in one and the .py and .inx in the other. Drag across. Remember, when you start a file manager as *root*, 'home' is 'roots home' you will have to navigate to /home/'your home'/'wherever you unpacked the files'.

Second one, right click on the .py file and check the permissions, especially the executable and correct if required.

Hope this helps

Yes, thank you, rich2005!!  And thanks to all who helped!

I didn't quite do what you said 'cause I couldn't quite understand what you said.   :P  But somehow I just took the 2 files out of that Update folder and put them into the folder on the next level up. The empty update folder is still there.......but I got the Bezier Envelope to show in Inkscape which was the important step.

I'm not going back there as Root and removing that empty folder.  I have had enough of root for a while.   ;D  Many moons from now when my computer is excavated, the diggers will analyze it. Aha! Very interesting! Empty folder! And then they will write many learned papers about the mystery of the empty folder.

I went back to the tutorial.  Somehow the Bezier Envelope worked but not just how it was supposed to. So I finished the tutorial using the Envelope Deformation tool which heathenX mentioned in the tutorial. I didn't/couldn't follow the tutorial exactly but as heathenX mentions so often....Things don't have to be perfect.  :D

I guess the important thing is that I learned a few things along the way. And for about 8 hours of steady work, a few things is really good for me.

You can see my result here.  http://i54.tinypic.com/wb30hh.jpg

Very nice, ms_meme. A few more exercises and you'll get your Bezier Envelope diploma.

Off topic: When excavators discover the ancient ruins on your hard disk, they would find one small relic in your empty folder, and like the missing DNA of some lost connection between the user and the machine, they will be able to understand that the empty folder once held the two files necessary to create Bezier Envelope. The secret lies on a hidden dot file called directory in your now empty folder. ;)

So you see, empty folders are not always what they seem.
