Upgrading pclinuxos 2011 Full Monty with dialup
« on: March 15, 2011, 07:12:28 PM »
Synaptic says I have to download 1299 MB of upgrades. Is there a safe way to upgrade in small pieces over a period of time until my system is up to date so not to screw up my computer? To download all at once would take me over 2 weeks at 24 hours a day. I tried to download an 100 MB chunk of KDE thinking Synaptic would take care of all dependencies but it didn't and I had to reinstall.

                                                         Many thanks maparus

I don't think is even safe to update that install, when did you update last time?  is a new install?  probably you should wait the 2011 release.
I shall pass this way but once;
any good therefore that I can do,
or any kindness that I can show
let me not defer nor neglect it,
for I shall not pass this way again.

Hi maparus,
in your situation, and if you are happy with the 2011.01 FullMonty, I suggest you don't upgrade but keep on using it. And if you want a fresh uptodate FullMonty just wait for the next edition, which should be out sometime end March / beginning of April (and maybe you can download it from a different place with a fast internet connection).
Again, there is nothing wrong or unsafe with using the 2011.01 release without updates, it works fine and there is plenty to explore and play with.
regards,
-p.

Thank you for your suggestion pinoc I'll just wait for the next release. Pclinuxos 2011.01 Full Monty is perfect for dialup users everything I would ever need in one operating system. I just bought the disk from an online company just wasn't expecting that big of an upgrade right off.

                                                                           thank you maparus

Exactly that is one reason for doing the FullMonty: providing a wide variety of tools, drivers, firmware, etc without the need to know what to install (or even have to learn how to install software) to accomplish all your computing needs and have all hardware working out of the box.
