[SOLVED] Epson NX420 will not print

I have PCLinuxOS installed on an old Pentium 4 computer.  A few weeks ago I bought an Epson NX420 and have not been able to get it to print.

I could not find the NX420 driver when going through PrinterDrake.  I downloaded an ".rpm" file and used instructions found on this forum to unpack it.

When I restarted my computer this afternoon, I tried the Print setup program again.  This time it found the driver and appears to have the Epson NX420 setup as the default printer.  Note, this printer is the only one hooked up to this machine and is using one of the usb ports.

I've tried printing a file from LibreOffice and I've tried printing the email I received from the PCLinuxOS Administrator approving me as a member of this forum.  Neither are printing.

I am a newbie.  Any suggestions on how I get this printer to work?

I have an NX420 and believe it or not I like it and it works great BUT it WAS a job to get it working.  I'm not sure what I'd do without all my forum friends.

I don't know how to uninstall a program, so I did not uninstall Printerdrake.  However, I did delete the Epson NX420 from Printerdrake.  I then logged into CUPS (http://localhost:631/) per your linked post, went through all the screens to add the printer.  I then went to a LibreOffice document I've been trying to print.  It printed!

I'm glad you "felt my pain" and went to page two ;-))  I had pretty much given up on any help.

I've been using PCLOS for a couple of months and, overall, it has worked well.  Getting this printer to work has been a big issue that is now solved.

Good for you!  I'm glad I could help especially as I feel it's "pay back" for all the help the forum has given me.  Just keep using PCLOS and use the forum to handle your problems (lots less than those with with Windows) and you will get better and better at it.  Sometimes you have to bump your forum post to give it more views to guys like me who only check in sporadically (or more like only when I have a problem).

The way to uninstall a program is though Synaptic (which btw is the only way you should install so as to avoid problems). Search for what you want to remove, right click the green box (showing it's installed) and choose to remove it then "apply".

I am also having the same problem with my NX420. I tried to read the link that was provided for the questioneer but was unable to traditions....off limits for some reason?

My printer was working, but stopped again for no apparent reason. I uninstalled it, then reinstaled it, but still no dice.

I think the thread was too old and Tex removed it.

This has not been a problem for me for sooooooooooo long that I now wonder what my original problem was.

It may not be as easy as this but did you try to install the driver package with Synaptic and then install the printer through the Control Center?  I think what I had to do was install it through CUPS http://localhost:631/ though.
