After KDE update I get this
« on: March 09, 2011, 01:38:12 AM »
KDE detected that one or more internal sound devices were removed.
Do you want KDE to permanently forget about these devices?
This is the list of devices KDE thinks can be removed:
Capture: HDA Intel (ALC268 Analog)
Output: HDA Intel (ALC268 Analog
Do not ask again for these devices.

Yes No Manage devices.

What should i do? I have not done anything besides rebooting....

Updating to the new KDE seems to have caused this problem for OP.

Somewhere I read that KDE 4.6 uses udev / upower for hardware management instead of HAL.

May be it is because the entries of not found are those created by HAL earlier and the new ones by these new fangled things.

I too got the same prompt, I told it to just forget it and have not been bothered hence.

I replied yes to remove them after checking that I still had sound and all seems fine.

Same here with two KDE upgraded systems. I replied "yes" to both without any sound problems.
Transition was remarkably smooth.  ;D

I think it's a co-incidence. The alsa driver has also been updated and that's probably what's causing this message, rather than KDE, though the desktop will report it.

i also replied yes and i can't hear audio cds, mostly because i don't have any or a optical drive on both machines  ;D

by running alsaconf in konsole you should be able to reconfigure the sound card
