when i have this problems(fortunately not a single one in 5 years) it takes me 2 days, i determine what is failing and then send it back for warranty

ram and mainboards is what most fails, sometimes is not a failure, incompatibilities with some ram modules still exist

when you buy hard disks, please DO NOT BUY REFURBISHED

no matter the price, warranty , it doesn't matter, don't do it, be happy

i did it once, terrible experience

Yeah... anyone offering "refurbished" hard drives that doesn't operate a Class 100 Clean Room is yankin' ya, anyway.  Buying a hard drive advertised as RFE (Removed From Equipment) or as a "pull" means you're getting something used.  If the vendor is reputable, they'll be up front about this and offer the unit at a price consistent with the estimated hours on the device.  Under those conditions, especially if you're trying to provision older equipment, used drives can be a sensible way to go, but in a new system, yeah, T6 is bang-on here.

As for RAM, I've had good luck with all of Crucial's products and with G-Skill as well.  Good RAM for good prices.

@ff103:  I think you'll be happy with Eric's work.  He stays on top of the state of the art, and deals with some solid suppliers.  Please post a review of your system once you get it and have a chance to evaluate it.  One last thing:  I make it a practice to open and inspect new hardware BEFORE powering it up.  Things can get knocked loose in shipment, and a simple visual check can save you major headaches.  (Eric's gear didn't have any problems except for the missing RAM I mentioned earlier, and he made that right very swiftly, but ya never know...)

western digital was who sold it, i believe that they have the proper equipments and installations...   ;D

i prefer to buy second hand parts than buying refurbished without any specification of why it was refurbished(almost no company specifies that)

You bought a refurb directly from WD?  Wow.  Yeah, I'm with ya on that last part.  Knowing why a unit was refurbished can be very helpful, as can knowing what parts had to be replaced, but almost no one will give out that info - not if they eventually want to sell the stuff.

You're also quite right that used equipment is generally better - but even that gets dicey.  As drives get cheaper the only reason to buy used any more is to provision older equipment that needs smaller slower drives.

directly? no, in a store but it said refurbished by western digital, something more, can't remember what

i always check the labels on the hard disks to see if there is some mention on something like that

about used parts, sometimes is what you get, simple, fast, cheap and adequate for old machines that deserves to be kept on use
