Hi all.

After upgrade to KDE 4.6.1 which went flawlessly (thanks to Texstar) I am experiencing a problem.

I could right click on MP3 or any other file type before and pick Properties. Then I could go to the little wrench icon and click on it. Then I could click on Icon button and change the icon to anything I wanted to.

I can't do so anymore. Icons are not changing.

I hope that this video will explain my problem better. I can choose new icon and apply the settings and later I can press refresh in the dolphin window and the icon is still default one. It worked perfect in KDE 4.5.x and previous versions.

To make sure that this is not my config problem I logged into console session and removed this folders:

Code: [Select]
~/.config
Code: [Select]
~/.kde4
Code: [Select]
~/.local
and rebooted.

This changed nothing.

Rafih aka RSanti and Quadro555 aka Piotrek are reporting the same problem on the #pclinuxos-pl irc channel.

Its no biggie. I like to have my icons personalized but I can live without this till fix is found.

Anyone else can confirm this?

Regards.

Andy

P.S. Before starting this thread I have used those phareses in search engine:

- kde
- 4.6.1
- icons
- mimetypes
- default

and abbreviations of them in different combinations but no results matched my criteria so I am adding them here as a kind off tag list.

I don't know if it worked in 4.5.5
But
It's not working now.
Even threw in a reboot  ;D

Folder icons are changing OK

I have a partition that still has KDE4.5.5 on it and was able to change the icons. Partition with the latest updates does nor change the icons.

Hi Folks.

@ Xenaflux: Folder icons are working fine - yes. Different types of files is where kde fails.

@ All. Thanks for confirmation. I have remaster made minutes before installing KDE4.6.1 and I just checked. It works 101% on LiveDVD.

Folder icon change system wide no work for me.....

I can change folder icon 1 at the time, but that would take months....

I have no problems doing that from here:

Configure Your Desktop >> Common Appearance & Behaviour  >> Application Appearance >> Icons

My folders change with the chosen theme

this was how I change the folder icon before ( the blue default folder does nothing for me)

I want my black folder icon (system wide)

I can also confirm that file type icons changes don't apply. I guess it's a bug introduced by KDE 4.6, as I had no trouble doing this under KDE 4.5.

Another bug mentioned in the forum which I can confirm, is that when using a non themed login screen, the background colour and the gui style don't apply (probably another 4.6 bug).

None of them is important, but I wish they'd stop creating new features and planning 4.7 (personally I'm very pleased with the kde features anyway) and stick to improving stability instead.

I can also confirm that you cannot change icon from the properties dialog box of a file. Instead of a button, it is just the picture of the existing icon. Folders I can change. Very strange!

Thank You all. Now lets hope KDE devs can fix it and then our Guru will apply the fix.

As soon as I upgraded to KDE 4.6.2 which is available in testing section of our repositories my icons are back to the way I remembered them.

Thank You Boss.
