*Solved* Strange problem with sound
« on: March 07, 2011, 08:01:01 PM »
I just did a fresh install on my Main PC to get more familiar with the OS and ran into a stump.  After KDE Loads a message that comes up states my sound card has been removed and the OS wishes to know if i want to forget about them.  I tell it no, because i haven't removed anything, and check the PCC and they are there.  When i select it as the default card, and test it, I get no sound.

Using the CLI to check Alsamixer to make sure its not muted i get this...

ALSA lib pulse.c:229:(pulse_connect) PulseAudio: Unable to connect: Connection refused

cannot open mixer: Connection refused

Also noted, I have 2 selections of my Sound Card.  One is grayed, the other isn't.  The driver for it list's as a INTEL, HDA driver (snd_hda_intel [ALSA].  I've also tried Enabling/Disabling PulseAudio with no luck.

Anything I'm missing?
Thanks.

Have you tried Tex's solution at http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,83740.0.html ?

Will try that right now, I did a full update but maybe it didn't catch it.  Thanks!

You can always try alsaconf in a su root terminal to reset your sound settings for alsa.

Thanks to everyone who donates. You keep the servers running.

Just got back from doing that heh.  It worked on a soft boot, then for kicks decided to power down, wait a min., then power back up.  Same thing.  Something must be conflicting, just need to put my finger on it.  I'm starting to wonder with me having a ATI 5700HD if its trying to pick up the sound portion of the card and defaulting to it.

Ok, Just did another alsaconfig and after a reset its working.  Will do a hard reset and post results.

*I went back to Tex's link and deleted the file and redid alsaconfig and rebooted.  Had the message about KDE asking if it wanted to forget some extra drivers and told it yes.  All is well after 3 hard reboots.  Will keep a eye on it though and update if anything changes. *

Thanks guys for the help/input.
