Radeon 7500, do i need install another driver?
« on: March 07, 2011, 12:38:27 AM »
Hello,

I've just installed PCLinuxOS Enlightenment on my R50 Thinkpad laptop. It has a Mobile Radeon 7500 video card.

I want to set the screen resolution bigger in the "screen resolution settings" but it doesn't have anything larger than 1024x768 listed.

I am guessing the default driver the OS installation is not the correct driver for this video? So i am searching in repositories for a correct video card
but I cannot find one.

Do i need to install another driver? If so, which name is it under?

ati abandoned this video card around 2004-5

there is no driver for it anymore, the free fgrlx driver that xorg offers is all what you have now

what monitor do you have?

you have to choose it properly so the resolutions in pclinux control center are selected properly

i don't know what resolution can have that thinkpad but if it is old and 4:3 this is the maximum possibly

the driver that you should be using now is x950 and earlier, be sure to enable transparency and 3d in pclinux control center/hardware/configure graphics card/

in there you can set the driver i mentioned for video card and also the monitor you have, be sure to select one with the same resolution you know that thinkpad can give

Wouldn't the included radeon module work for this? I have both Radeon 9000 and 9800pro cards that work great with this module in PClos.
