Sorry. Your assumption is correct, I issued the less command against file: /tmp/checkxterm.txt Dolphin shows this file as 0 Bytes.
I don't think the less error command threw an error, I think it was showing that there was nothing in file: /tmp/checkxterm.txt
I issued the less command, in a konsole, directly from the /tmp directory for file checkxterm.txt. Same results.
If I remember correctly, I was trying to extract the contents from an rpm or a debian package(was probably created on a system that used double byte character set, so some of the file names gave me grief). I was not able to access the files nor delete them the normal way. To keep this issue from coming up again, while looking into these packages, I decided to force the system to not use the double byte character set. That was a bit ago and can't remember where i made that change
