[SOLVED} Open Office freezes on launch
« on: March 05, 2011, 06:33:35 AM »
Since updating pclos a couple of days ago, open office freezes on launch. Error message is:

"openoffice.org requires java runtime environment JRE. Selected JRE is defective".

Open Office is completely frozen. It is impossible to even close the program without rebooting the system. Is anyone else experiencing this? How do I rollback to the previous JRE. Thanks for suggestions.

Hi Esc

Just to clarify - are you running OpenOffice or LibreOffice. (as LibreOffice is now the default suite)

Have you checked in Tools > Options > Java - and checked that Java is selected? I believe is should be 1.6.0.24 (for Libre anyway)
PCLinuxOS 32bit KDE 4.10.4; kernel-3.4.11-pclos1.bfs & 64bit 3.4.38bfs; NVidia GeForce 8400GS 1GB 310.19 driver

In OpenOffice (not Libre) I had this behavior after updating Java.
It crashes with Writer.
But Calc allowed me to start.
in Tools (Extra) > Options > Java > I could point to the right Java version, problem solved.

For now I already upgraded to the latest Libre Office ;)

I'm using Open Office, not libre

I can't go to tools and choose a java option. The program is hung! I can't even close it down without rebooting.

It happens with calc or write.

Best option, just do a full update in Synaptic, reboot, followed by lomanager (Menu option: Office > LibreOffice Manager)

Synaptic doesn't show any updates. I did a complete update 2 days ago. This is an Open Office install, not libre office.

edit: sorry, I just saw the libre office manager. I'll try rebooting and use the manager.

SOLVED

Thanks DeBaas. Removing the old Open Office and replacing it with Libre Office was the fix. As a bonus, Libre Office is greased lightning compared to the older version.
