[SOLVED] VirtualBox Extension Pack ....how/where do I install it?

I just updated which updated VirtualBox.

It works except that it bombs out on restart with an error message if the virtual machine  was closed by saving the state of the virtual machine.

I can discard the saved state and restart ok.

The error message mentions installing the extension pack so I thought I would give that a try.

The catch is that I don't have a clue as to how and where to install it.

Do you download it into the host and install it from there?

Do you download it from within the guest operating system and install from there?

I really don't want to do this by trial and error and then have to spend days of reading in order to recover from doing it wrong.

You need to download the Ext Pack from the Oracle Virtualbox web site.

Hope that helps a little.

I installed the extension pack and now I can once again save the guest machine status without it bombing on the next startup.


I did have a few moments of consternation while trying to follow your instructions because you do not mention that you have to find and click on a very tiny icon on the right hand side before you get anything about adding the extension.

This might be one of those setup things where you can have text showing with the icon. Mine shows no text unless I click on it.
