virtualbox has no access to firewire, only to usb if you have the usb version
this is one of the reasons my machines dualboot with xp
Great! So there's still no reason for me to reinstall XP again on VirtualBox.
Of course, apparently your firewire camcorder is not recognized. Do you have a chance to try another/different firewire cable ?
what about dmesg output ? eventually try dmesg | grep -i ieee1394
Tomorrow, I'll call and see if any of my friends have a similar Firewire cable, and I'll post back. If not, I'll resort to using the digital camera's video recording function. That's easier with the SD card. I was really hoping I could get this device to work on my VAIO. I used to plug that device in on a desktop with an ATI TVOut video card. Too bad, that desktop had gone into retirement.
[archie@arevalo ~]$ dmesg | grep -i ieee1394
ieee1394: raw1394: /dev/raw1394 device initialized
ieee1394: Host added: ID:BUS[0-00:1023] GUID[080046030277e51c]
In the meantime, thanks to all your help, guys. If you think of anything to get this going, just let me know. Cheers.
