google sketchup 8 and wine
« on: February 25, 2011, 03:28:24 PM »
i have to use the mentioned tool, on the netbook works rather well i have to say

all i had to do was install and then edit one registry entry and that was everything, a intel video card doing what is supposed to do(weird i know!)

in the desktop i did the same but all i got is a black screen where the drawing area should be

i have been reading in wine website but i find incomplete answers referring to nvidia video card but i am using a ati card with free drivers

not sure what to edit, on one site was suggested to disable dri but that would kill kde4 and compiz

T6, did you ever figure this out? I've got the same exact problem on my laptop, can use the tools and all but nothing shows with the black screen and when starting it tells me that it can't start opengl.

hello and welcome to the forum!

no, i didn't used it again on the desktop, i only use it, rarely on the netbook and it works well on it

i haven't tried again with the new video driver it has now

in the current state of virtualbox it is probable that it would be better to run it inside the vm

hello and welcome to the forum!
Thanks but I've actually posted here many times but its been awhile so I guess my former posts have been deleted, maybe a site upgrade? No big deal.

no, not a site upgrade, just normal maintenance, some posts are no longer important, relevant or the original post was deleted so the comments disappear

yes, a vm is better for this purpose atm
