Appropriate place to report packages that are out of date?
« on: February 25, 2011, 01:53:34 PM »
IS there an appropriate place to ask for a package to be brought up to date? The package suggest forum seems to be for new packages, a few months behind the latest stable release is not "broken", and I cannot find a bug tracker.

I have used Linux for years, but I am new to PCLOS (I have been thinking of moving from Mandriva to a while which is why I registered for the forums a while back) so I am a newbie here.

Read the rules in the Package Suggest section. The instructions for requesting an update are there.

The package suggest forum is used for both updates and new software requests. Please see the Package Request Rules before posting in the thread.

Welcome, graemep!

The correct place would be in the Package Suggest area.

Take a look at this sticky for the correct way to suggest a new package or update.

And if you like it'd be nice if you stop by the Welcome Center to introduce yourself  ;)

Hey, that reminds me. I never introduced myself at the Welcome Center when I joined the forum almost 2/3 of a year ago. :P Think I should do it now? ;) ;D ;D

Back on topic ---
graemep,
Did you read the Package Suggest rules? Did you see the part about adding [Update] to the topic line (title) of an upgrade request?

Doesn't he have to have 10 posts before he can see Package Suggest or has that been changed?

Thanks for your help. I do not know how I managed to miss that in the rules or the forum itself - its pretty obvious! Just great, introduced myself to the PCLOS community as completely unable to read simple instructions!

The packaging rules also mention that we should not suggest server packages. This almost put me off, but checking the repos I see that almost every server package I want is in the repos: in fact, its not much behind Mandriva which does aspire to be a server distro. Not that I will be running a server, but I need a develop test web server(s) and databases.

I have one issue with E17 to solve before I install (switching users - I have started thread about that already). Once I install I will post in the Welcome Centre.
