I finally removed k3b today after it had turned 5 DVD+RW disks into coasters. After doing that, the system would not read any data DVD. It did read an audio DVD. After I re-installed k3b, the system is reading data DVDs again.
Is/are there some setting/s I can alter to bypass the requirement for k3b?
You have not said what you mean by a "DATA DVD"
Are you using 'true' RW with these disks so that dragging and dropping files onto an icon (for instance) causes the file to be written to the DVD?
What version of UDF are you using if so?
Have you all the needed packages installed for working with such DVDs?
This is an area where Linux is badly lacking for GUI apps which make it easy for the user to work with such disks.
Apparently all the needed functionality is built in to Linux ..... but it is very difficult for a user to access that functionality.
There was an app in KDE3 which helped a lot, but this has not been ported, that I am aware, to KDE4. It is badly missed.
