but it crashed...

Where ?  did it crash

I just installed E17 on 3 different computers.
It crashed 6 times ( 2 each = 1x setup and 1x update( graphics)) .
However, I ignored the warnings and just rebooted ( 2 times the power button ) and all is fine now.
?  ?  ?  ?

A bit more info on the cause of the crash can help the devs in improving it.

Archie... ;D     are you talking to me  ?

OK, on both computers the system did hang on the end of installation.
I waited for next to 10 minutes, but had to do a hard reset ( or choose to do...)

After updating I got a message ...some thing like this ( it's 2 days ago...so.... ::)   )
---This is very bad...SEGV..d   This should not happen...Bug in E17....compile every thing with -g....CFLAGS
Then, the "little balls" keeps turning and turning and turning
Can't remember if I logged out or 'reset'

This is all I remember. Sorry

Well, not directly to you, Xena. Rather to posters who would get involved in this thread.

Forgetting the actual crash message and stating it is really quite different to simply saying, "Hey, e17 crashes. It's no good!" And you know how many of us in the forum would think about that (including yourself). We are not the Linux elitist and we seriously want to help those in need of assistance but how could we when all that is stated is, "Hey, e17 crashes. It's no good!"

You've been here for as long as I have been, Xena. And though my previous post might have been indirectly pointed at you and Pencil1, know better that it was not directed to you nor to Pencil1 for that matter. Kinda just like a reminder....  ;)

No problem

You were right to remind me.
It was just laziness of me not to make correct notes
Sorry...won't happen again....I hope    ;D

We all have those days, don't we?  :)

I'm having some now with Just19 ;) I guess I don't read too well sometimes.  ;D  ;D  ;D

"VERY nice, but it crashed... Gonna wait until its further in development, i think its to soon"

e17 has been on beta status for so long, always i believe

soon is not a word on the dictionary of e17 developers

now, know what failed and find a solution could be more useful than wait for something that could take a year or more

I rather have a perfect e17 sometime in the future than another kde4.0 soon. ;-)
Please provide information about what you where doing when it crashed. Mostly pressing F1 restarts e17 without rebooting and even without logging out.
Temporarlily in the e17 version in the repo's e17 SEGV when you try to remove a gadget from the desktop, workaround: unload/reload the module.

Btw e17 is not even beta, only the EFL core libraries are stable, some extra libraries need some more work. As long as they aren't finished the way to a stable e17 is closed. :)

OK, on both computers the system did hang on the end of installation.

Xena - was this at the very end of the install when the bootloader was being setup?  If so, I've noticed (only on the 2010.12 iso's)  that the bootloader setup can take upto 20 minutes before it completes. (it's make a cup of tea and play with the dog time  ;D )

It's very strange - trying the .11 or .10 iso's and they work as expected - a minute or so.....

Yes, In E17 it was at the end it seems to fall asleep.
I consider 10 minutes as problematic .

I also installed Gnome, xfce, lxde and FM on the same hardware(s) and there it takes only seconds

smurfslover, you are not hurting my feelings or fixing the phrase with the smiley

last night i verified and e17 base as you say is beta 3, beta is beta and they are excited for a rc soon

if the base is beta, the rest depends on the beta, system is beta

So if i write a new program based on a stable api/language/toolkit my program is stable because the tools i use are???

Be glad the e17 devs are so perfectionistic, they'll never release a beta before all features are there and 99% of bugs are solved.
To set an example: the difference between EFL RC and EFL stable are two small bugfixes.
Don't expect a e17 beta this year yet!

To get back to your initial post: e17 failed!
But now you say the installer was giving you troubles when installing grub, don't see how draklive-install has anything to do with e17 or EFL
E17 is the desktop written in EFL. Draklive-install is written in Perl/Gtk (iirc) and is the same on all pclinuxos iso's.
I've used both the e17-full and the e17-light isos for installs and never had problems except for the known bugs in e17.
I did have similar issues twice with the lxde-mini and minime isos but got over the problem on a second try.

Well, i just want to help, but i am a great dummy, i can clean my computer, give more memory and so further... for the rest???
But i gonna try again later, now i have not much time.
when i installed E17, it was good... After getting my updates i could not login anymore, so i can't give much info.
When all work is done, and i can use my other computer ( for trying ) i install E17.
Greetings,
