VPN connections

i want to set up a VPN connection for some friends so we can play over lan together pretty much. I've never done this dont even know how to start can anyone help? im planning on doing it on pclinuxos 2010

you will be using linux, will your friends use linux too?
its a bit tricky but its possible to create a VPN using ssh
