How to completely remove virtualbox and get space back
« on: February 20, 2011, 11:18:24 AM »
I have virtual box installed and want to change to the other but it won't let me I remove it but when I try to install it says it's still on my system and won't install.  When I reinstall it remembers all the .vdi's and everything.

I want to install the non ose version.  But it says it aborts install because there is an older version.  I used synaptic to completely remove it but it leaves parts still on.

Doesn't getvirtualbox have a remove option?

If you delete .VirtualBox you will delete all your virtual machines. I presume you want to keep those, but just remove the program, if you intend to install the OSE.

As information for truckerjay, when I did the PUEL version, it found the old install, but asked if I wanted to proceed. I said yes, and it continued to remove the old version, then install the new, without removing any of the actual VMs.

Delete /opt/VirtualBox folder

Delete /home/your-name/.VirtualBox folder if you want to get rid of your installed guest OS's.
