Slow boot time on sdb(pheonix) [solved]
« on: February 20, 2011, 09:02:13 AM »
Last night I removed my "other linux os" on sda and installed pclinuxos KDE. I had grub on sdb but with the install I put it on sda. The KDE install works as it should but now when I boot Pheonix, xfce, on sdb, it takes over a minute to boot to desktop. I hit escape at the splash screen and it is paused at two lines stating "waiting on device sdb5 and sda 6 1 minute timeout. I remember a post from a few months ago with a problem like this and searched it. Found where running this cl "kinitrd /boot/initrd-`uname -r`.img `uname -r`" will help.

I don't know what it is or which system to run it from. I'm assuming from the pheonix install on sdb. Please advise, thanks. p.s let me know if i need to post HD info.

Solution: After reading more posts and not fully understanding the above kinitrd command, I installed the PAE kernal which I believe resets the inid file. System now boots in normal time.
