Menu Speed Question, Solved

How or where can I change the speed of the Menu. When you move from menu to sub menu (like More Applications to Printing) if you get a little outside of the menu listing it will jump to the sub menu you accidentally got into. I'm "maturing" and not as steady or as quick as I used to be and need a way to slow down the transition.

Maybe -- System Settings (ie Configure Your Desktop)> Hardware> Mouse> Advanced> Pointer Acceleration>  (set to less than 1)  might help steady your aim!

i understand what you ask, mouse precission is kinda annoying but i don't know any setting that affects directly and only that menu

only what _steve wrote or get a new mouse, sometimes old mouse can give you problems with precision and weight, both are related, more heavy and less precise is a problem, right weight and more precision helps alot, over 800dpi is good

Thanks for the replies. What I need is to slow down the transition. I fiddled with the mouse settings and did slow the mouse down, not exactly what I needed. jd

Hi jd,  are you using KDE with classic menu style?

You can try Kickoff style...unlock widgets>right click menu icon>switch to kickoff.

I find much easier to use

Or maybe it's time to use shortcuts instead. You did not mention whether you are using KDE so I am assuming that you are.

It is just as easily (if not quicker) to use krunner. Press (combination) Alt+F2 and type in the first few letters of the application you want to launch, and possible matches will appear for you to simply select. If there is only one selection, all you need is to press Enter and that single application will be launched.

Another possible solution is to use a widget called QuickAccess and you can put on it all the applications you frequently use. It can reside either on the taskbar or on your desktop. Feel free.

Then there are the file associations and right-click > Open With...

What I'm saying is there is more than one way to open your application. A combination of keystrokes and mouse clicks makes a more efficient way to use our systems. I know it takes a lot of practice so start now.

In addition to all the other sound advice there is another Menu launcher named Lancelot (can be added by opening your panel widgets and searching for Lancelot)

Hi jakesdad I feel your pain.  Your DE is not mentioned - if it is KDE try the Lancelot Launcher (menu).  It is a Plasma Widget installed to your panel.  It is pretty and it is configured so that it does not jump to sub menus when the rodent crawls over it (Main headings being the exception).  Actually there is a sweet spot that will do that but you can disable that in the configuration by choosing click on everything option.  It is my favorite menu and it might become yours too.
