@pinoc - not sure if I messed up but I just updated via Synaptic and can confirm:

1.  the latest sources.list 1.0.4-1pxlos2013 is installed on my system per info in Synaptic
2.  when I check the repo's they ALL still say "kde4" instead of "kde" in the sections area.
3.  A normal Reload of the repo results in a FAIL because of the kde vs kde4 issue.
4.  I've tried closing Synaptic and reopening, no joy.

Is this just me??

PS, if I manually fix the kde4 to kde all works well.

I've just successfully updated two of my machines using the instructions under "Option 2: use the ibiblio mirror." After the update -- and it's a pretty big one (20 minutes for my KDE and 8 mins for the LXDE) -- the Synaptic window will show only the installed packages on your machine. You need to hit Reload once more and then all the available packages will be visible again. Good luck, everyone.

there is no kde4 section in the latest package, don't know how you got this in there?
Maybe reinstall apt-sources-list, after that press Reload, etc.

Thanks pinoc, that resolved it.  I now realized what I did.  After updating I went to PC>Software Center>Update Package Sources List.  Could that script be pointed at the wrong file?

EDIT:  confirmed running "Update Package Sources List will install an OLD version of the sources list!  That was the problem.  Seems that script needs updating.

" PC>Software Center>Update Package Sources List" is not on a default KDE installation. Which package have you installed that created this entry?

Cross checked against my netbook also running fully updated PCLOS KDE.  The netbook does not have "Update Package Sources List"!!  I found "apt-sources-update" installed on my desktop but not on my netbook.  The bit that I like about that script is it performs a speed test on the repositories and lists them in order of speed so you can select an optimum repository.  But obviously it's pulling a bad sources list.  :(

that is an old package which has been removed in Synaptic, please remove it from your system.
It may be added back when it is revised and known to work as expected.

Thanks pinoc, I'll remove it.  Should we cut out or move this part of the thread?  I don't want to hijack the thread for my installation inconsistency.  Thanks for your work!!!

Am I going to have to add gnome to the repos before I update my zen-mini install? Because I followed the instructions here and updated my sources file and guess what after updating my install is now broken apparently several essential files where deleted from my install and now I have to reinstall my system without being able to upgrade or install new applications.

there has never been a gnome section and zen-mini is not an officially supported PCLinuxOS iso. Most likely your installation had not been updated for a long time, or you had installed stuff form outside the repo.

There was gnome section in 2007/2009 repository but moved to main in the 2010 repository.

I got error messages until I installed apt-sources-list. That cured it.

Reinstalling that, as you mentioned, may solve a lot of the problems people are encountering.

So there is officially no gnome version anymore then? Looks like I am being forced to use Ubuntus crappy unity or Crappy gnome 3 which the last time I herd was having issues with Nvidia and ATI cards. Looks like I will have to grab the KDE version then.

Trying to setup a HTPC and tried XBMCbuntu and guess what it was not working at all for me. Trying to stream via my DLNA server on my main pc was a constant headache even tho it streams fine to both my samsung bluray player in the livingroom and to my android powered tablet but not to XBMCbuntu running on the HTPC in bedroom.

No, you are not being forced to do any such thing.

Install the LXDE-mini and from there install task-gnome from the repository.

There is no official gnome ISO ......  but that does not mean that Gnome is abandoned or unavailable.
