Not sure where this belongs, but I often use aarnet mirror  here in Australia but got a bit confused for about a week

1.. I went here  http://www.pclinuxos.com   to download kde

2.. Clicking on address for aarnet (bottom of page) failed  --->   http://mirror.aarnet.edu.au/pub/pclinuxos/live-cd/

3.. Then I stepped through,  beginning  http://mirror.aarnet.edu.au/pub/

seems that an extra /pclinuxos is required in the address

http://mirror.aarnet.edu.au/pub/pclinuxos/pclinuxos/live-cd/

In this case I ended up using the internode mirror, this worked fine, and later using aarnet with the red addition in Synaptic also worked fine.

They're just checking to see if you are awake.  ;)

I use heanet from down here and I seem to have less problems than most of the people who have problems. If that makes sense.  ::)

Being "Downunder", or "On top", depending how I'm feeling I too find :
rpm http://ftp.heanet.ie/pub/pclinuxos/apt/ pclinuxos/2010 main updates nonfree kde4 games
a fast server, but we don't all want to be using it.  ;)
I find just as good:
# rpm http://debian.ethz.ch/mirror/pclinuxos/apt/ pclinuxos/2010 main updates nonfree kde4 games
# rpm http://ftp.ch.debian.org/mirror/pclinuxos/apt/ pclinuxos/2010 main updates nonfree kde4 games
# rpm http://gnustep.ethz.ch/mirror/pclinuxos/apt/ pclinuxos/2010 main updates nonfree kde4 games

Plus keep an eye on: -

PCLinuxOS Synaptic File/Software Mirror Status Report and apply one of the three , "new sources.list" download methods if things are screwy when updating via Synaptic.

I was having a problem as stated below, which may have been related to the server being down for work, or sources.list,:
http://ftp.vim.org/ibiblio/distributions/pclinuxos/megagames/apt/pclinuxos/2010/base/pkglist.megagames: 403 Forbidden [IP: 192.87.102.43 80]
dunno but... updated (added) new sources.list, problem fixed.

There really is not a lot to read; either HERE
OR HERE for instructions on getting up to date with your New sources.list

Yes. And while things may be different since the main server initially went walkabout, the tests I conducted at the time led me to that. Down here, with such draconian net coverage and a couple of linux users under my wing, complaining about "firefox this" and "flash that", "frostwire so and so" and "VLC whaaaaa", I need a HDD full of current luvilyness to appease the whining dummy spitters.

Thankyou pinoc - Are we still having to "Update" ?
My Synaptic Repos seems to be 'up to date' however ongoing activity here suggests continuum ongoing at servers ?

FTPeed to it and it's all looking rosey!!

Edit - tried the link (posted at the top of the thread) in Synaptic

http://ftp.yz.yamagata-u.ac.jp/pub/linux/pclinuxos/apt/

but it wouldn't work for some reason.

The following one does work though:

ftp://ftp.yz.yamagata-u.ac.jp/mirror/pclinuxos/apt/

they both work fine and the http-protocol is preferred.

I won't be using it - just testing it out for the forum - but it now seems to be working with http as well

Back when the issue with the repos started, a thread on here said to use http://distro.ibiblio.org/pclinuxos/pclinuxos/apt/, so that is what I have been using.

Today I realized that I had not updated in quite a while, so I did a reload and mark all updates.

When I restarted, it now shows PCLinuxOS 2011. When I saw that, I remembered that I had changed my repo due to issues with ibiblio, so I came to the forums and found this thread.

So now, I wonder, if I update my repos with the new list, am I going to break my install? Right now everything works, and I would like to keep it that way without doing a new install, but I would also like to get back to using a mirror. Is it safe? Should I wait a couple of days after I update my repos list to make sure that the one that I choose is synced? From what I understand the one that I am using is the 'main' repo, where all the others sync from.

Thanks!

On some of my systems, I do like you, don't update for while (= a few month) and I have found on occasions this may not be too wise ( errh ummm, due to my inquisitive nature I do not unfrequently send an OS on its last journey  ;D )

Now just in case of Unwanted Surprise is planning a visit to my abode,  I try to remember to make  LiveCD of my system just before doing an update where it has been some time. In my case I run smaller systems and the cost in time is around 8-10 minutes and I store the ISO safely away.  Recovery is then just about the same.

Could I ask if you do or consider doing such as a regular item. The backup is so easy and does help stopping your spirit hitting your feet in record time if something goes wrong.   I pray I am preaching to the converted.

Not an answer to your question which I will leave to more experienced people, but to me it seems you have made a rather bigger than usual upgrade in that it has changed to show 2011.

I have never made a LiveCD of a current install. One reason that I haven't is my personal /home/ directory is about 100GB. This update was probably about a month since the last one, but I just freaked when I saw my startup and splash screens had changed to show a new version.
