I'm glad I updated after logging in at Forum, around 4 days back (?) from the single server that Texstar posted.

For us not so commandline aligned users this is a little complex, hoping this is correct info for myself and Newbs, see if I can help out, and check what I've done is correct ?

Firstly, reading post: Downloading Sources.list HERE to your home directory, then opening a Terminal from the home directory, and using this command:
Code: [Select]
user@localhost ~]$ su
Password:
[root@localhost francis]# cp sources.list /etc/apt
cp: overwrite ' /etc/apt/sources.list' ? yes

Any errors please respond, I'm sure some of us are getting a little frazzled  ;)
Not that it's rocket science, but Synaptic is the Mother that feeds us, many people are coming to Forum wondering why Synaptic isn't working.

Plus comparing new servers to the sources.list in above link, may be a little
tricky for some.
SO, for new servers coming online, we can add them to "the list" by opening Synaptic, (Top Toolbar)> Settings  > Repositories > NEW > Then manually entering as I had to, being in Australia:
# rpm http://mirror.aarnet.edu.au/pub/pclinuxos/pclinuxos/apt/ pclinuxos/2010 main updates nonfree kde4 games
# rpm http://mirror.internode.on.net/pub/pclinuxos/apt/ pclinuxos/2010 main updates nonfree kde4 games

Hoping that helps out someone, and is the correct procedure essentially (basically) ?

Thankyou.

Re: PCLinuxOS Synaptic File/Software Mirror Status Report: Interrnode mirror
« Reply #21 on: February 28, 2011, 02:01:42 AM »
Hi Aussies,
I am finding that Internode is not updating properly: is anyone else finding this? (I updated via internode: no updates. Reset to Heanet, & it finds files to update. Am I just expecting the mirrors to update faster than they can or is there a problem?)

I can report it to Internode, but want to make sure the problem is real first.

regards Doug

heanet, the Swiss and Dutch mirrors, are the most powerful, reliable and fastest mirrors which sync more than once daily. All other mirrors sync whenever they want...

Iǘe found the most effective method of updating, from Texstar and pinocś posts:

Download Texstarś sources.list

To save complexity download simply to Downloads.

Use pinocś Instructions and command: Quoted from HERE.

Quote
1) make sure Synaptic is closed
2) open a terminal (konsole) in your folder Downloads (where you saved the file sources.list) and copy/paste the following command in the konsole:
Code:
su -c 'cp -f sources.list /etc/apt/'
 (provide your root-password when asked)
3) start Synaptic, and update your system.
regards,
-p.

I found this really simple, heanet mirror was selected, no problem updating Synaptic from Australia.

after contacting Hiroyuki SHINBO we now have a new Japanese mirror (ftp.kddilabs.jp) in the list of repo mirrors. Please note that this mirror-address is the same machine as ftp.ne.jp so it was only added once.

Youŕe becoming obsessive, (j/k)  ::) , thatś the hardest way I've seen really  ;D

Keep up the great work, I love my Computer this week, it's behaving. PCLinuxOS MiniMe 10.12. (Texstar said, don't do it, but I went to 10.12 ) and are just taking things slowly ... very gently as she goes.
Update from last sources.list, and, " one of the last three " in the list , really good for me as an Australian, with minimal Repo Server coordination.

NOTE: Just because I got away with installing 10.12 at this time, and updating, does not mean everyone should do so. Alternative; wait for next .iso release.
