PCLinuxOS Synaptic File/Software Mirror Status Report
« on: February 08, 2011, 02:31:43 AM »
April, 4 2013:    Any of the 2013-isos (MiniME, KDE, FullMonty (32/64bit) are NOT affected by this measure

Important: After a fresh install of any new LXDE or XFCE PCLinuxOS iso-image you must apply one of the 3 options below. This is an exceptional measure which is only needed until new LXDE or XFCE isos (2013.xx) will be published.

In order to keep your PCLinuxOS installation uptodate you need to use Synaptic to  update your system.

The PCLinuxOS applications come in packages which are made available to Synaptic by several mirror servers around the world. They are called mirror servers because each of these mirror servers has the exact same content of packages. For this reason make sure to enable only ONE mirror server. In addition you can enable a mirror having the megagames section, which provides additional games.

The mirrors servers are specified in the file sources.list which is used by Synaptic. From time to time the URL of a mirror may change requiring to amend it to the new correct address so you can continue updating your system using that mirror.

If you have problems when updating your system, it may be that your list of mirror servers needs updating. To do this you have the following four options

Option 1: use PASS
=============================================
This is the best option. Go here, get a access code to our primary PASS server, support the development of PCLinuxOS, get any updates earlier than anyone else on the planet, and you don't have to read or deal with anything written here! ;)

Option 2: manually add new sources.list
============================

Note: if you can NOT find the distro.ibiblio.org mirror in your Repository List then you already have the latest repo list and you are set.  ;)

1) copy/paste the text displayed below into an empty document and save it as sources.list in your home directory, or just download this file from here

2) not just minimize but properly close Synaptic if it is open,

3) as root backup your original sources.list (which may contain your PASS info): open a terminal (Konsole) and enter (copy/paste the following):
Code: [Select]
su -c 'cp /etc/apt/sources.list /etc/apt/sources.list_orig' (and provide your root-password when asked)

4) as root copy the file sources.list from step 1 to /etc/apt/sources.list overwriting the existing one: open a terminal (Konsole) and enter (copy/paste the following):
Code: [Select]
/usr/bin/su -c 'cp -f /home/$USER/sources.list /etc/apt/' (and provide your root-password when asked)

5) start Synaptic and update your system

Hi,
I note there are no Australian Mirror sites. I am with Internode: Where do I ask them to sync from? (Internode was on the Australian Mirror list before this last update)

despite of several emails Internode still has no functional rsync setup. The same was true for aarnet but they finally got it right so the first Australian mirror is now included in the list of the original post.

Yeah wow. Internode, btw are one of our nation's leaders in connectivity imo. They seem to be the only mob who is prepared to admit that a IPv6 exists. They are running a trial for ADSL users (simultaneous IPv4 & IPv6 stacks):

http://ipv6.internode.on.net/

All the other ADSL net providers here when asked about IPv6, are sticking their fingers in their ears and going: "LA LA LA LA LA LA"

Watch out for the looming down-under National-Broadband-Network scandal as our biggest ISP's lay Nat-translation on us instead of providing us with the real deal.  ;)

Great! Good to be back home to Internode. (I just selected the line & added it to the repositories, then moved all the bits to the relevant spot. Worked like a charm.)

Now I need to wait for my new 64 bit Notebook (soon to be delivered), & hopefully soon be able to load 64 bit PCLOS onto it (pretty please??)

Thanks, Doug (from downunder)

Excerpt from communication with kddilabs.jp

Quote
Hi,

Thank you for your kindly attention.

Our server (ftp.kddilabs.jp) had not used ibilio.org as the
master site of our pclinuxos mirroring. However, since there
might be something wrong at our master site, I changed our
master site to ibiblio.org with the correct paths.

I also changed the path tree of pclinuxos to fit the current
path tree. Our server is re-syncing with ibilio.org, it may be
spent two or three days.

I am waiting for another communique from jaist.ac.jp.

Hi Archie,

at the beginning of this month I contacted and provided updated rsync information to all old mirrors. The japanese mirrors kddlabs and jaist were upon the first to apply them and both work fine, see the OP. Is this an old communique you mention?

No, pinoc. The email was sent this morning and was promptly replied to by an admin at kddilabs.jp.

I noted the OP that was why I had them enabled as my mirror. Yesterday, I noticed that the two Japanese mirrors did not get synced with the latest update so I sent them emails. I hope I did not do anything wrong.

They wrote me this morning about it.

Hi,

Our server (ftp.kddilabs.jp, formely ftp.kddlabs.co.jp) has
changed the path of our pclinuxos mirror. Could you update
the paths in your web pages?

The current paths are for the following:
ftp://ftp.kddilabs.jp/Linux/packages/pclinuxos/
http://www.ftp.ne.jp/Linux/packages/pclinuxos/
rsync://ftp.kddilabs.jp/pclinuxos/
Note: The paths were changed to fit the current pclinuxos trees.

I am re-syncing our mirror of pclinuxos, and it may be spent
two or three days.

I would like to know the reliable master site with rsync.
In current, our server uses "ftp.uwsg.indiana.edu" as the
master site for us.

Hi Tex & Archie,
thanks for the updated info. Temporarily removed kddlabs (now kddilabs) and will add the 2 new Japanese mirrors to the OP when they have finished syncing. jaist still works right now but will watch out for any path changes there in the next days.

For information:

I tested all the repos and every one of them is working fine

Added(changed)  kddilabs

http://ftp.kddilabs.jp/Linux/distributions/pclinuxos/pclinuxos/apt/

and that is working fine as well (of course no sync has yet worked through)
